  • I hated it in high school. I just hated waking up early af. Was so glad to get a car and license. Then come college, I loved it again. Getting a parking permit, going into traffic with other people was a pain.

Moved to a place that was near a college bus route, never had to get a parking permit or get into traffic. Take the bus and relax.

  • drive on southern roads long enough. you will encounter them. Either they have 0 awareness that they are driving in 2 lanes (or swerving between lanes); or they are deliberately doing it to be assholes

    Either way. Fuck them

  • Most “soccer moms” only transporting a couple times a week at max capacity. Rest of the time it’s solo travel between work/groceries/“me time”. 💀

  • 🚘 🧠 people, I guess. Most people are just born/live in areas where it’s nearly impossible to get around their area that’s not by a personal vehicle.

Getting groceries? Hop in the truck/SUV, drive 5+ miles to grocery store

Want to eat out? Hop into the SUV/truck, drive 10+ miles to restaurant

Visit friends? Hop into the SUV/truck, drive 10+ mi to friends house in the exurbs (and they already live in the suburbs 💀)

Going to work? Hop into the SUV/truck, drive 20+ mi to work.

Going to the bars? Call a rideshare, pay $50+ for one ride, get drunk. Most people probably think they can still drive while under the influence and get home safe.

Only describing 1-way travel, by the way.

These people trying to imagine there’s a more scalable and safer way to transport people is a foreign concept in their mind — despite the rest of the planet figuring out how to properly move people.

  • Been working remote since onset of pandemic. Never going back to the office bro. Couldn't pay me enough to share the roads with the rest of the grinders.

So many hours wasted in traffic.

  • insert lifted truck hogging 2 lanes

insert soccer moms with massive SUVs

    Lol

  • most of the smart locks that are supposed to be drop in replacements for traditional locks are mostly trash.

Personally been eyeing upgrading to UI’s access readers, but it lacks features like door unlock with removed Homekey (for now anyways since it requires some specialty hardware). So been holding off.

This particular product is geared towards small business and large enterprises. But can be setup for home usage if you have to technical expertise.

  • Sounds like you are going through burn out.

Use your vacation time and reset - travel, catch up with friends, go camping, visit family, talk with a therapist. Do whatever it is that makes you happy or to find happiness.

Once you reset, then make a decision whether you want to uproot your life to the Styx and pivot to something else.

  • I would suggest setting up DMARC, SPF, DKIM. I have it setup so mail servers would reject/drop e-mails if they do not originate from specific mail servers. If a spammer tried to send an e-mail like you describe then it would be rejected by my mail server or mail server provider.

  • Not just in the initial sale, but for every time my data is used.

  • just take a look at T&Cs and privacy disclaimers for auto manufacturers. Mozilla did an analysis and found all of them just stink. Imagine paying $30K for a brand new car, only to get your information sold by the dealership to shady warranty companies. The auto manufacturer selling out your data in perpetuity and listening to everything. Oh and one auto manufacturer is making claims on your sexual activity LOL

Welcome to the unregulated market of big data in the USA

  • Both countries also do not recognize the authority of International Court. High ranking officials definitely should have been hauled off to jail for authorizing, developing, and employing "enhanced interrogation" (aka torture) techniques

  • Given that the UK is largely surrounded by the ocean and is a mere smudge in comparison to some American states (Texas, California, ...). The logistics of the fish coming in chilled is feasible. As you move more inland in the United States (Arkansas, Tennessee, Kansas). Freshwater fish coming in chilled is just not possible or safe, unless shipped via overnight plane (very expensive!)

  • One example that comes to mind is Better Help

During the pandemic, this company was heavily advertised across Twitch. Not surprised they pay shit wages. Wonder if they originally paid 2-3X market rate during the hype, but slowly clawed back the teaser rates in favor of the dog shit rates.

  • Hold up, you mean that market in the middle of nowhere (like Kansas) with “fresh caught” fish was not caught by my local fisherman.

    Shocked, I tell you 😂

  • I can see flooded EVs susceptible to electric shorting. But I haven’t read or seen any reports of combustion simply due to exposure from salt water. Maybe those vehicles were pierced by some object during hurricane?

    Do you have a source?

Also modern ICE vehicles not immune to electrical shortages due to heavy water exposure. Most if not all have ECUs and other electronic equipment that is sensitive to water exposure.

  • EVs don’t combust spontaneously. If the battery of an EV is compromised or battery pack is pierced and lithium is exposed to air. Then that violent reaction (lithium oxidizing the air) will produce the fire you see.

I think this is from a training exercise though. Suspiciously empty lot. Some branding on vehicle might indicate test site. The idea here is that by covering the vehicle with the fire resistant blanket, the fire will consume all of the oxygen and eventually put it self out.

  • Lockdowns provided short term relief for reducing GHG but later bounced back to pre-COVID levels [1]

    [1] https://climate.nasa.gov/news/3129/emission-reductions-from-pandemic-had-unexpected-effects-on-atmosphere/

Long term we need to improve the efficiency at the source (power generation) and get rid of O&G dependency. In addition, transform cities to become less car dependent (the microplastics from ICE/EV based cars tire wear is not good) Also Western diets have to change (reduced meat consumption).

I do like the idea of keeping WFH as an option though. The mandatory RTO sentiment of C-level executives is annoying to say the least and data is not backing up their reasoning. Keep an office for the people that prefer it and reduce the office footprint. Gather data over time and let teams and team leaders decide.

  • long term survival of the species

Bro that went out the window when people were fighting over 🧻 and causing local supply issues at grocery stores.
