  • Why are their official communities on Reddit and Discord? Why not a Mastodon or Lemmy community?

  • No such trouble for me, thank goodness

  • Can some tell me how Deezer stacks up? I switched from Spotify to Deezer a little while ago, not for any real reason, other than Spotify kept increasing their prices and I don't really listen to audio books or podcasts even. Plus Deezer streams hifi flacs as standard so it sounds way better. I've got no idea how ethical they are tho, but would be interested to learn.

Edit: so I did my own research and looks like Deezer pays sightly more per stream than Spotify, but marginally..

Never mind, I'm beginning to build my local music library and self host it. I buy lots of merch and I go to gigs regularly. Once my library is substantial enough I'll quit the streaming apps

  • But like, where do I download all my games from?

  • I switched to GrapheneOS like 4 years ago and at first I was bummed that I could no longer tap my phone to pay. But it's fine. I still go out with my wallet in my pocket, so it's no problem to just tap my bank card really... I'll take privacy over convenience thanks

  • Yeah, pity is not available worldwide

  • I'm honestly kinda sick of this. Sure, Google's decision to try to lock down their devices to prevent installing unsigned apps is concerning for FOSS. But can we all just calm down a bit?

Linux isn't going anywhere, and neither is hardware that supports it. Yes, is possible that Microsoft or even Intel (now that Trump has bought into it) might try to do some sketchy shit. But the open hardware market is starting to look promising. Look at MNT, System76, Pine, Framework etc..

I agree times are scary and everything is looking kinda bleak, but your best option right now is to completely boycot (as much as possible) Google, Apple, Meta, Microsoft etc. Just stop using their shit.

Buy up old PC's, turn them into home servers and self host as many services as you can.

I'm confident GrapheneOS will continue and we will still have f-droid after 2027. But I'm an optimist.

    RTFM is Sage

  • Let me firstly say that I 100% agree with all of the above. And secondly, I don't work in tech.

But I think most of the frustration from the grey beards is possibly because they're burnt out. They've probably been answering the same questions their entire life. And there comes a point when the actual answer becomes, RTFM.

I don't agree it's an appropriate response. The mere fact that the acronym has profanity in it suggests it's an aggressive response.

I've been on forums before where, instead of saying "RTFM", someone had just linked me to the appropriate man page... Essentially the same message, but far more helpful and a much less insulting.

In my opinion it's not wrong to tell someone to read the manual, especially if the answer is in it, but it's how you say it that matters.

  • If it works, don't try to fix it

  • I'd suggest creating an issue in GitHub then try do downgrade to a previous version to see if that works

  • I cannot answer definitively, but it's highly unlikely that windows could access any data from your Linux partition. That said, if you're that concerned about the potential for this to happen, perhaps your shouldn't use windows at all. This is coming from a PC gamer who uses Linux exclusively.

  • Short answer: yes

  • This is good. This data will eventually help influence game developers to support Linux. It won't happen over night, but we this trend continues, it'll eventually start getting some attention.

  • Just find a woman that swallows dude. Don't neuter yourself just yet. Also the pill is very effective these days, and a chemical abortion is also cheap and less invasive than a vasectomy. And if your smart and in a long term relationship you can track your partners ovulation and raw dog some of the time.

What I'm saying is, there are other options. Your also presuming that all the women you fuck will be ok with no condom. Women care about std's too so you might find yourself needing to wear a rubber anyway. That would be ironic.

  • Honestly, is why men in their 50's be pulling his 30 year old women. It often takes time for men to mature and gain confidence. Don't sweat it. It'll come.

  • I never said there was anything wrong with copying. I was simply pointing out a stereotype.

  • Well, I use Void Linux, Fedora, and NetBSD. All for different purposes. I just love the freedom to modify my system 'till my heart's content. I'm generally a tiling WM (sdorfehs) on laptops and openbox/lxde on desktop.

    I appreciate minimal clean code.

  • The stereotype of arch uses generally being smart is no longer. The "I use arch btw" meme brought a whole new user base to arch. You'll find them on r/unixporn showing off their hyperland rice that they copied from some other user..
