  • Never knew how much I needed this, holy shit. Mine beeps when it finishes but also beeps again if I haven't opened the door in, idk, some amount of time. Which I get why it's a gesture and sometimes I actually do find it useful but often I'm like "I KNOW, GIMME A MINUTE"

  • I am triggered, please for the love of god and anyone who lives with you JUST CLEAR IT

  • Melt ICE, let's fuckin go

  • I feel like the problem with AI generated content is it's so easy for anyone to generate stuff, so there can be a huge amount created with little effort. There is high quality AI-generated content, but whew there's a lot that's total slop.

I don't know what the best response is, though. Requiring disclosure of AI-generated comment doesn't seem like it would help because that's going to be mostly honor system. User-flagged could be used to brigade/suppress posts. Really it's probably just a matter of blocking users and communities where you see consistent slop.

  • I am an uneducated American, thank you for sharing this. Really repugnant. This cancer is global and growing.

  • So jealous of my UK brethren who can ask this question

  • This is the kind of [ Removed by Reddit ] content I'm here for

  • Custom autocompletes/corrects. Just figure out a non-word (i.e. something that you wouldn't want to use without autocorrecting) that's easy to remember and set it up frequently used snippets of text. Some examples:

    • meetnow - my zoom meeting link
    • booktime - a link to my calendly
    • frequent sentences or blurbs I use in emails (e.g. thanks so much, let me know if i can help with anything else sorta stuff)
    • nicknames for different frequently used hex codes
    • galert/yalert/redalert populate a styled HTML snippet to make a green, yellow, or red div that I can then just pop my content into
    • lots of other little HTML snippets like that
    • group nicknames to populate a list of email addresses (like an Outlook contacts group but you can use it outside of Outlook)

Anyway there are a ton of things I use it for, those are just a few examples. Saves me a lot of time.

You can do this on Macs at a system level, on Windows you can do it on some programs but it seems to have to be set up on each one which is worthless.

  • I recently started listening to Cautionary Tales and I love it, I'm going to check out more on your list. Thanks for providing a blurb on them, it's so frustrating in these types of posts when people just give a list of names with no context of why they like it.

  • I am still not following. If every household gets a baseline income–say based on average cost of living in an area, or even simply based on the poverty line–why would people who work more and get paid more accordingly feel they are not compensated for their time?

UBI doesn't mean everyone gets the same amount of money no matter what they do–it means everybody gets the same amount of money as a baseline. If they are able they can hold a job just like they do now that pays a wage just like it does now. The person who is disabled, unable to find work because of lack of skills or education, or doing unpaid work gets the baseline money, but does not work a job where they earn a salary.

A version of this already exists in Alaska–not an amount that is livable on its own, but the same basic idea. https://www.sciencenews.org/article/alaska-free-money-residents-hints-how-universal-basic-income-may-work

  • The thing is, if working isn't tied to capitalism, then it's actually easier to find work because you don't have to worry only about what provides enough money to survive. Someone "unemployable" may be perfectly suited to be a caregiver, artist, odd-jobber, or anything else that would not be able to financially sustain them because of low pay or a limitation on the hours they are able to work. I think UBI would lead to more societal engagement, not less, because people would be able to choose how they engage without worrying about whether it would pay the rent.

To your second point, I'm not sure I understand. If it's a universal basic income, does that not mean that everyone has their basic needs met? Those who would like more than that and have the capacity to do so could still seek higher paying jobs in order to have the lifestyle they want above and beyond basic needs. Why would they be bitter about other people getting those same basic needs covered but not earning more money?

  • because most of the community in here consists of IT guys

Is this data that has been collected, or anecdotal?

  • WikiTok Bloomscroll through Wikipedia articles

This gives me the same feeling that I got from StumbleUpon

  • You can abuse alcohol to negative effect without drinking every day. Binge drinking and drinking to dull your emotions are other forms of alcohol abuse beyond just the classic portrayal of a "drinks all day or he gets the shakes" alcoholic. Maybe OP is doing this very occasionally and it's not a problem for them. But if you're using alcohol to as a coping mechanism with any sort of frequency, it's probably not a healthy situation.

  • I'm embarrassed about being a slob. I'm definitely messy and it's a point of friction in my marriage. (I'm trying to get better but it's hard to reprogram stuff from childhood.)

I dated a woman for 13 years who absolutely, positively, would not clean, and didn't know how to use a garbage can. Would drop trash on the floor and leave it there until I finally got sick of it and cleaned it up.

Fuck. I feel like an army drill sergeant now in comparison.

  • Physically? Not great.

    Mentally? Bad.

    But existentially? Also quite unwell.
