I joined Lemmy back in 2020 and have been using it as @[email protected] until somewhere in 2023 when I switched to lemmy.world. I'm interested in systemd/Linux, FOSS, and Selfhosting.

  • They had a hardware failure but close enough

  • Other engineers have a reputation for massive egotism, software engineers don’t really.

    That's a joke right?

  • Great read

  • Yeah, all the ones I've used had remote access

  • I'd rather plug in a screen with VGA than deal with HPE iLO 4

  • Rule

    Jump
  • RAID is not a backupRAID is not a backup

    Said it twice so it doesn't get lost

  • There's also Kopia which comes with a nice UI and Rustic which is a Rust rewrite of Restic with some extra features.

  • Last time I tried it, it caused high CPU usage, has this been fixed since?

  • It also works really well for routing on water. One feature I really like is being able to specify the dimensions of your boat and then having it take that into account when calculating a route.

  • Is this viable for a homelab or is it overkill for that?

  • Yes. Vibe coding tools and AI companies

  • Thanks, might have to try that sometime.

  • Could you link the privacy extension in question I haven't heard of it

  • I do like how I can easily remember IPv4 addresses while I struggle to remember a single IPv6 address

  • AI / Vibe coding software (companies)

  • I recognized the channel and read the DeArrow title, but still checked if he actually launched it myself 😅

    1. You can stop reporting this for spam, this is a crypto parody video explaining how the heart works, not a real pump and dump or crypto video
    2. @[email protected] could you reduce the clickbaityness of the video title a little? I know it fits the theme, but it makes it hard to figure out what it's about (as you can tell by the downvotes 😋). DeArrow gives me this title: "Explaining Heart Physiology Using Crypto Jargon".
  • I don't think that's a valid comparison. The behavior does differ when it comes to cleanly releasing resources. Rust's panic performs the drop actions for the current values on the stack, a SIGILL or SIGSEGV crash doesn't.

     rs

    #[derive(Debug)]
    struct MyStruct {}

    impl Drop for MyStruct {
    	fn drop(&mut self) {
    		println!("{:?}", "imagine cleanup here"); // this is called
    	}
    }

    fn main() {
    	let a = MyStruct {};
    	panic!("panic!");
            println!("{a:?}");
    }

    Try it yourself
