WYGIWYG

  • They want a safe place to vent. I'm split on whether they leave it open so that guys can read/understand or whether they just like kicking out guys that try to defend themselves. Probably a bit of each. Good for them :)

  • Can't crossfade, developers won't add the features the server doesn't support it. I get a random crashes at least once a session. Search sucks because I don't feel like wiring up elastic. Doesn't stream large lists, browse to P? With 5000 artists and 20K tracks? Forever.

The beta is a little smoother but doesn't address any of my issues with it.

Symphonium is 100 times better, never crashes, solves lists/streaming by downloading the lists and handling them locally.

  • I was wondering how long before they dropped that other shoe.

I bought Plexpass when it was $70. Got my money out of it. The centralized login, ssl, caching and proxy are probably worth paying something for.

That said, I've mostly walked away from them over privacy concerns and an utter refusal to add community-requested features while removing actively used features.

  • I just want my AHK stuff to work again. They're dragging us kicking and screeming into un-avoidable security that breaks software that noone is up for fixing.

  • LOL, that's his whole schtick for nile blue :)

The first time I saw the reaction, I was shocked it's so close to my closed eye hallucinations

  • I see pulsing waves of color, even in pitch black rooms. When I was little they were bright as fireworks, now, depending on the night they're either just vaguely waves of purple, grey, and blue or sometimes electric blue and white.

  • What's stopping them from running a client model? Why even send the images home?

  • While I don't love age verification, taking 3d webcam scans from adults won't create a catalog of kids.

edit: and to clarify, IDGAF about chat ID verifications for almost all sites, but Roblox is marketed explicitly toward and occupied by children.

  • I'd be far happier if they just shut down chat under 18. The pedos will find a way to get through otherwise.

  • In that case, here's a plausable explanation that might resonate:

Gifts are a social contract. They are tendering their time, effort, and feelings for you to pick something to make you happy. If they misjudge you and you care about their happiness, thank them, hug them, make them feel special, then make sure you have a gift list available to them next time. This could be a Pinterest board, or anything. Focus on things you'd consider acceptable, even though they're new. Also, DON'T GIVE THEM THAT LIST RIGHT NOW. In fact, wait until black Friday and tell them you have trouble picking out gifts for them, and ask if they could make a list, and can then, hopefully, safely exchange lists.

Your spouse put a lot of time and strong feelings into picking you birthday a gift. They formed an emotional attachment to this process/gift expecting to make you happy. Perhaps they feel like they don't get you good gifts, perhaps the price of the item itself was a hardship that they decided to bear on your behalf to make them feel proud, or maybe they feel like you're too good at getting them gifts. Perhaps you're extremely hard to shop for since finding you used, repairable items that you'll appreciate is an insurmountably difficult task from the outside. In any case, they felt that they had done a good job and probably had a solid sigh of relief for figuring something out.

They wrap it, feeling excitement, wanting you to be happy. They hand it over to you. You appear disappointed and want to return it. Even if you put on a good face at the time and later mentioned returning it, All that excitement, pride, and serotonin they had is now instantly gone. They feel awful for not understanding you.

Embarrasment + Shame + Sadness will make some awful anger.

Pick your battles. Someone giving you something nice that you don't love for your own reasons is rarely a battle worth having. Accept it with grace and admiration for them. Make them as happy as they're trying to make you.

    edit:

    also to cover

I’m not allowed to gift nerdy t shirts. They don’t like them. I love them. I thought they would like them but they do not. So they asked me to stop. This feels the same. I do not like new things

While not entirely incorrect here, they are adjacent, but gifting clothes is another type of social contract with some messy implied stipulations. You give it to them, they feel obligated to wear the clothes and that usually comes with public-facing consequences. Self-image is quite fragile in the face of others.

I keep a collection of nerdy t-shirt logos from t-shirt sites all over the net in an image account and my wife has access to it. She can get me anything from there in my size in any form of clothing and I'd gladly accept it and be overjoyed and wear it all without worry.

  • First off, thank you for all your work.

    Why this hasn't happened yet

You set the bar pretty high for improvement.

The vacuums are expensive. The work requires multiple top-tier skill sets, and the people with those skill sets don't generally have enough time to contribute to something this heavy

Somebody could just fork you and clone everything you're doing, but it's not like any users would chase someone else versus you when you're the only one getting actual work done.

It's also kind of poking the bear for these vacuum companies skirting along by selling user data.

  • A billion years ago, I worked for a place that was using Cold Fusion.

There was this one project that had a loop with a break condition, but the devs kept accidentally putting errors in the break logic. The project was pretty processor intensive. I got calls 5-6 times a day to reset the CF server because stopping the HTML page wouldn't do #$%^

Can you guys please just add a second break module so you can just load another page and cause the project to abort? hell make it dump a file in /tmp, whatever....

  • Depending on the field, going to college might not significantly improve your chances.

  • thought: Find something strenuous or stimulating for the youngest to do an hour before bedtime, could even be learning. Sometimes the right amount of exercise before bed wears them out enough to stay sleeping.

thought 2: noise maker, ocean sounds or rain playing in the room can keep them from popping out of light sleep when they hear sounds from the rest of the home.

Wife and I split AM/PM duties. I do 6am and drive the eldest to school, then come back and prep the youngest before I go to work. but my youngest is order than yours, that mercifully tends to improve with age.

It's better if the house duties are shared as well, but some people have different situations. If your partner is able but won't meet you in the middle, there's counseling. What often bites you in the butt is if your partner is depressed. Depressed people fail to engage; it becomes almost contagious as you try to pick up the slack and fall to it yourself.

Finding a better job with less hours can be part of it. Sometimes you need to look outside your familiar area for work that pays better, that's assuming you can afford to move or find a job willing to pay you to relocate. There's also more WFH jobs out there than ever before.

  • but I’d argue voting third party outside of swing states

absolutely, and i'm a fan of this, let's get congress full of third, as long as it's not libretarian third :)

  • Mildly Infuriating @lemmy.world

98 degrees upstairs, ac stopped working at 8am.

I wonder what the specs are on the technology that disables shopping cart wheels
