  • I just finished up Spirtfarer. A sweet gentle game, that really hits the feels. To quote Yahtzee “full of light and wonder and melancholy humor, which does rather juxtapose against the underlying knowledge that our job is essentially to take our passengers one by one into the woods and ice them in the back of the head”

  • Have you checked out the whole “Noir” genre? Burnt out old schlubby heros who look like bad guys is a whole thing there. Humphrey Bogart in the Maltese Falcon, Terriers for a more modern take.

  • A lot of LSD

  • Yeah there are like 40 of them but you can split them up in to series. If you liked The Truth you’ll probably like the Watch series starting with Guards! Guards! and following Sam Vines and the other Watchmen.

  • I’m going through the Discworld series for the first time right now. I’m going in chronological order but when I finish I’ll probably go through them again eventually but I think I’ll do series instead in bunches. I’m already looking forward to rereading the Watch series back to back.

  • Stop letting the perfect be the enemy of the good.

  • And we shouldn’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. A poke with a stick isn’t good but it’s sure as shit better then a pistol whipping.

  • These are the crazy years.

  • That goes without saying

  • I always want to rewatch HIMYM because I do remember enjoying it but I get one or two episodes in and I loose the taste for it because of how bad it ended. Really only one of a few shows truely ruined by the ending.

  • If money is NO object then I’d buy the US government and make the US visitor friendly. I mean I’d really like to see the pained desert, New Orleans, New York, New England in the fall, hell there’s heaps of the US I’d like to visit and it seams to me that you can buy the US government for a couple of hundred billions.

  • I am very much so … but that’s only because both my parents were shithead drug addicts in their 20s. My mom got in AA and turned her life in to a better place but she was starting again from the bottom. My dad didn’t get help and was still using and dealing and struggling last time I heard.

  • I loved TLOU and was totally involved in the storytelling. I’ve never been so emotionally attached to the characters in a game as I was with Joel and Ellie. The real strength was how the writers used the video game’s abilities to change your POV character to really drag you into the story. Right from the tutorial where you start off as Joel’s daughter and by becoming her at the start the twist at the end of the tutorial really hits harder then you expect because you’ve been her. By the end of the game by playing as both characters you really become invested in their relationship and attached they are which makes the roaring rampage of revenge at the end in the hospital somehow totally expected right up to the shoot out in surgery. I mean I was so invested in the relationship that my hands were shaking and I’m ashamed to admit that I shoot the nurses as well.

  • But it is the fact that it will end that gives our life meaning. If we didn’t know that it’ll end our lives would just be an endless loop where because it all happens nothing will matter. As Todd May says “One has a place in the cosmic process of which one’s own existence is a fleeting moment, but a moment nonetheless”

  • Maybe it’s a because I’m rewatching it right now but the first couple that jumped to my mind was Andy and April from Parks and Rec. Andy is very warm and bubbly and April is not. They’re a very fun couple but I’m not sure about breaking gender roles so much as just not really caring about them. The rest of the couples in P&R are pretty good friendship and passion combos from Ron and Diane’s practical seriousness to Leslie and Ben’s friendly romance. It’s the first place I heard the phrase that’s become my relationship touchstone “I love you, and I like you.”

  • “You could never just do the expected, I was just an idea in a bog, But you sewed up your dream and we made quite a team, Jim and Kermit, a boy and his frog.”

  • Yup it’s dumb fun. That’s it. That’s why it’s my guilty pleasure. I’m in no way a better person for having watched it and it has the depth of a shallow puddle, but I get several giggles when I watch. One thing I’d disagree with you though is Rose McIver isn’t a bad actress (she did a solid turn in iZombie and other shows) and she can charming but the character of Sam is under written I’d agree.
