I am definitely a human, and therefore have a profile description, as humans do.

Super important information about me:

I am also [email protected]!

  • Apparently in later Discovery they actually used a starship, the USS Federation, as the Federation headquarters. It appears the Athena is just for the academy though.

  • It's rare that I find a game that I want to buy anymore, so I'm probably often in that percentage. I'm still regularly playing games I've owned for over ten years now, and usually don't see a lot of reason to keep buying more. I did buy two this year, one on launch and one on a sale. I also picked up a few DLCs for two of my long-time favorites.

  • Fortunately the WRC rights went back to NACON after that one game, so they won't be affected!

  • I use PopOS because I have a System76 laptop. It runs well on my hardware. I'm allowed to complain about things without some shit telling me to just "use another distro". If I wanted to run another distro I'd run another distro. Lordy..

I originally responded to you with a suggestion that I hoped would be helpful, not knowing what your experience level or reason for using the distro was. You responded by being rude and insulting. I hope you have a good day!

  • Because you just complained about them not releasing updates? Work on the underlying distribution is most likely going to be slow for a while longer since they're continuing to work on Cosmic. I'm sure you have your reasons for doing it this way, but you're already using a different DE than Pop comes with. Why not put your DE of choice on another distribution where you can get the normal system updates you want?

  • After all the time they've spent on Cosmic, I doubt they're going to stop using it now. If you dislike it that much, you might be better off looking for another distro that offers a different DE.

  • It does feel like they lost some momentum by doing that. I don't have numbers of course, but it seemed like everybody was talking about it around the time 22.04 came out. Now I don't hear nearly as much. Hopefully the new release will regain some of that!

  • Exciting news! I now need to decide whether to try to upgrade from 22.04 or just wipe and start over with the beta.

  • I would classify all of those titles as clickbait and ignore them. I play and enjoy both games, and both have their place.

  • I don't think they usually worry too much about continuity. They'll try to make things line up and explain inconsistencies sometimes, but there's a lot of times the writers say "wibbly wobbly, timey wimey" and try to tell a fun story without being locked into things. Seeing that approach for so many years is probably why I normally don't mind the inconsistencies between the various Star Trek shows!

  • They could definitely figure out a way to make it work! It could be pretty fun, and I would at least have a big grin on my face when I first saw the TARDIS on the Enterprise bridge!

And yes, I've noticed that too. The world of Doctor Who wouldn't be a great place to live compared to Star Trek, at least from what we've been shown. Even the tone of the episodes is often darker, there are quite a few classic and modern episodes that are just family friendly horror. Trek has done some of that over the years, but it seems Who leans into it more, or at least I notice it more!

  • It would make a lot of people annoyed, and open up a huge number of issues with trying to match up timelines, but..... I would watch a crossover. I would probably enjoy it too, as long as they had a good story to tell with it! I would think it would be best done as a streaming movie or something though.

  • I thought it was pretty interesting. Of course first episodes are usually weighed down a little by setting everything up, but it seemed they did a pretty good job of it anyway.

Even though I don't know any of the actors other than the former Trek actors and Wrenn Schmidt, the accents and voices are fortunately different enough that it's not hard to keep up with so far. I do hope they don't expand the cast too much farther though, or they could risk more casual listeners being unable to keep track of the various characters.

Khan is definitely not on my list of things I would like Star Trek to focus on, but I hope this series does well enough that they consider doing some more varied stories within the format in the future. And of course I plan on continuing to listen to this one too, and I hope they tell some interesting stories.

  • Already finished! It was pretty interesting, I'm looking forward to the rest of them.

  • I originally wondered about that when BlueBrixx lost their license. I can't imagine how much they'll cost, but I'm curious to see what sets they do.

  • American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 at the moment, finally with head tracking! It's so much better, to the point that I would find it hard to go back.

  • Yeah, that is sad. I enjoy seeing futuristic aliens and ships too, but I guess I've never really understood why a lot of these shows have to look like movies now. I would be perfectly happy to see them cut those fancy effects way back and spend some of that money on some good writers to make a few more episodes. I've found I very rarely remember how good the CGI monster or alien building looked, but I often remember what the characters said.

No, I'm not as old as I sound! ;-)

  • All of the above! ;-)

Seriously though, I just like to give things a try before deciding for myself what I think of it.
