i should be gripping rat

  • in general, yes. 404 is a reader-funded tech news site, staffed by a bunch of experienced, professional tech journalists. That said, I don't blame people for asking for an archive link.

  • hmmm, should i support the studio capitulating to a fascist regime? Or should I support the studio being bought by murderous religious fundamentalists?

  • The author said the "turning point" in her feelings came in 2022 when Watson appeared to aim a subtle dig at Rowling on stage at the Bafta Awards.

Host Rebel Wilson introduced Watson by saying: "She's proud to call herself a feminist, but we all know she's a witch." Watson responded that she was "here for ALL of the witches", which was widely interpreted as a statement of support for the trans community.

Bro Rowling is so delusional. Watson just made a generic "I love all my fans" statement and Rowling is in her damp black mold cave watching it on TV like "THIS IS ABOUT MEEEEEE"

  • Came here to say the same. I think this is usually the go-to solution for using controllers with emulators.

  • Sadly we are well into the era of fragmented social media and echo chambers. It was always going to end up like this. Still, I hear you. Social media was more fun when everyone was on the same platforms.

  • Nice nice nice. Thank you for your thoughts! I was just really curious. Haha

  • yeah? how well does that work for you? Is it like super cool, or what?

  • Although most of the focus in the media and elsewhere is on smart glasses like Google Glass and now Meta/Ray-Ban’s offerings, there are others too that fall under this umbrella term. Certain auto-darkening sunglasses are called ‘smart glasses’, while others are designed to act more like portable screens that are used with a laptop or other computer system. Then there are the augmented- and mixed-reality glasses, which come in a wide variety of forms and shapes. None of these are the camera-equipped types that we discussed here, of course, and thus do not carry the same stigma.

Obviously the camera-equipped models are concerning for a whole host of reasons, but i did not realize there were companies making these camera-less AR glasses that function like lighter VR headsets. Something like the Viture Luma actually seems like it could be a cool alternative to a gaming monitor. The price is comparable, just plug in via USB-C. I wonder what that would be like? Just leaning back in the computer chair and the monitor leans back with you....sounds pretty nice, tbh.

  • back when Iwata was in charge and Nintendo was still cool

  • this is the kind of humor i come to lemmy for

  • Pritchard is the final boss in Super Mario Wonder, not enough people talk about this. Really wild that they anticipated this change that far ahead.

  • genuinely just trying to clarify! Maybe you were using it for an application that I had not considered, in which it is clunkier. I only use it intermittently for screenshotting random things. At work we use Snagit so I don't have to lean on the Windows snipping tool so much.

  • Snipping tool? The one where you hit Win+Shift+S, draw a rectangle, and then it snips to your clipboard? That's the "unintuitive" snipping tool you're referring to?

  • I think that's totally fair. I had the same experience with Middle Earth: Shadow of War. I got my fill with the first one, the second one just felt like more of the same.

In this case, I never played the first one, and I think I'm only hyped bc I had just finished watching Blue Eye Samurai around the same time that the first Yotei trailer dropped. I'm still waiting until the PC drop though, but I think it'll be fun open world junk food when I get around to it.

  • I have not played Civ 7 but i've seen a lot of it played. As someone who has only dipped my toe into Civ over the years, Civ 7 actually seems pretty interesting to me. Just the core concept of changing cultures as the game goes on, and ending up with a sort of hybrid of all the cultures that came before, is really compelling to me. It's interesting to here your take as someone that seems to have played more of it.

To me, the biggest issue with the game right now seems to be the lack of a space age, as that just makes the endgame seem very abridged. What is the biggest issue with the game for you specifically? I know you said changing too much at once was a mistake, but you seemed to be speaking to their overall strategy more than anything.

  • holy shit, am I missing something or is this a big deal? Is this the main thing that has had Microsoft on the BDS list?

  • one would think Nintendo would want to get back at the Trump admin for fucking with their money so much via tariffs. but I guess they don't see it that way. Nintendo has always been cautious/conservative to a fault.

  • my understanding is that some Nintendo execs are green card holders, so this will be the one time they don't sue anybody.
