  • Except they changed the axis to plot confidence vs competence so arguably indeed relating to the Dunning-Kruger effect, not Expectations vs Time as the Gartner hype cycle does. Same shape and steps but different idea.

  • It surely can be done... but is it really a good idea? :P

If one were to use e.g. Immich database of tags describing images though then it might make sense, but then it's still indirectly manipulating content.

  • Honestly it's kinda true except for Photos and Maps. Everything that is not fundamentally visual by nature can pretty efficiently be done with Vim. It truly excels at manipulating and navigating through text.

  • Thanks but maybe I'm a bit slow, how does that work?

Say I use mplayer or aplay to play from my local ~/Music/ directory, or even VLC to play from my minidlna server on my RaspberryPi. Say I play a tune named tune.ogg which has metadata saying "Tsunami" by the artist "R3HAB" and it ends. How could my player then pick the next song, from my library or elsewhere, not randomly but rather because it's related somehow to this song?

  • Any way to get recommendations while pirating?

  • curios

Maybe you could become CuriOS... like operating system curious? OK I'll see myself out.

  • Thanks for making the video but also for providing non Youtube link. Maybe there is a PeerTube server that would enjoy hosting it.

  • Orange vs Apple! Who will win!

That being said I do wish every country would have a better public infrastructure.

Just out of curiosity if you do have recent research in economy on the impact of subway, tram, bus, bike lanes, etc on both productivity AND happiness, please do share. I'm already convinced but I'd love to learn more on how and why.

  • Nice try FBI, you're not getting that info from me!

  • while WINE/Proton are good, they’re not infallible.

Just finished the latest trendy AAA game (Clair Obscur) thanks to Proton and Steam... 45hrs of (amazing) gaming and I didn't tinker with a single option.

  • extremely not tech-savvy

You managed to make an account and post on Lemmy so you're probably underestimated your technical knowledge. That being said IMHO it's best to first list what software you use then find alternatives that work on Linux. Once that's done then yes sure try whatever distribution you want.

  • If you know the right tool for the task, very few things take time. IMHO what's more problematic is that with enshitification you're swimming upstream. Sure as long as the maintainer finds the right trick, you can postpone indefinitely bad "surprises" but ultimately, why do so when proper alternatives more aligned with your Worldview exist?

  • So many you didn't list one.

Also OP didn't talk about AI broadly, just vibe coding.

  • Hopefully it was a symbolic downvote. They say they did only to provoke but in reality they did upvote.

  • Good analogy as most people don't understand how a microwave is working either.

That being said, at least microwaving isn't on fast track to pollute our entire ecosystem so...

  • Yes but I need to carve out time for it. I explicitly warn others about that, that I will be unavailable because I'm playing. I usually think of it as a choice between playing vs something else I enjoy doing, namely sports outside, watching a show, reading a book, coding, etc.

To expand a bit on the "I explicitly warn others" it also means I dedicate time for others but I also expect to have time for myself, including to play. I actually even recommend other adults to do so. Video games can be absolutely amazing. They can be an art form or something casual, they can be about any topic. I genuinely believe that adults who do not play, and I mean in a healthy fashion, are missing something. It's just so damn fun!

IMHO if you consider it a valid hobby like any other and don't try to "cheat" by squeezing it in in addition to everything else, removing time for chores or worst, sleep, then sure you might have time for it BUT, yes, like every other hobby it is a privilege.

Edit: anyway, back to Clair Obscur. FWIW finished BG3 last year (3x), Elden Ring this year (offline), so I do spend a bit of time on long, very long games, but it does take me a while.
