  • The Panzer Dragoon series, except for Saga which is only partly in the fictional language.

  • WebDAV is probably the easiest for syncing the actual articles. I use some standalone server whose name I can't recall but there's a bunch of options.

I also use calibre-web for accessing articles through koreader + opds on a Kobo ereader, although this is a manual process and could probably be refined.

  • If the jellyfin server is hosted on the same LAN as the Roku you should be able to access it without Tailscale at all using the IP address of the physical server and port number of Jellyfin. I.E don't use the tailscale IP of the server when accessing from local devices.

  • Note that if you want to play the VR mod it only works with the original Crysis, which is also on GOG.

  • If you can charge it outside of the controller than this opens up the possibility to have multiple batteries which you can swap between. I don't think that is the case going by the article, however.

  • I have a working solution already so unraid isn't really appealing to me, and as you say, isn't FOSS. It's one of the multiple reasons I'll never switch to Plex, even if some argue it is a superior product to Jellyfin.

But I use NixOS (btw) so it's fairly low maintenance once it's setup, and easy to redeploy if things ever go completely sideways due to hardware failures etc

  • I suspect it's any university degree that doesn't have obvious "practical" benefits at this point (and even then).

  • MP3 is fine if the bitrate is high enough and it was encoded with a semi-modern encoder. I still prefer FLAC so I can transcode it to whatever lossy codec I need without additional losses (usually Opus but there may be better codecs in the future).

  • It's not paid but you could try self hosting searxng. Since it's FOSS there isn't the conflict of interest issue, although be aware it's a meta search engine so relies on the quality of common search engines. And your IP could be traced if it's not connected through a commercial vpn just like using the search engines directly.

  • Look into the notion of the circular economy if you want to investigate this further, although it goes well beyond just recycling.

  • Maybe Navidrome's jukebox mode, although I suspect it's a slightly different idea (and it was a bit buggy last time I tried it).

  • Many don't run into dir structure issues because they have already organised their libraries with beets or an equivalent. I don't personally have any issues with playing albums either. Some of the issues you are talking about seem to be client side, are you only testing the web interfaces?

  • Dsub2000 and Tempo are active FOSS alternatives.

  • This isn't quite the same thing. I'd say locked bootloaders are the Android analog, and they are already less likely to be user unlockable than the typical PC (and the situation is getting worse).

  • 404media is exactly the site I would expect to be aware of Lemmy among the semi-mainstream tech outlets (along with TheVerge to a lesser extent).

  • I know people's experience varies on this but I absolutely hated high school, and only discovered that I enjoyed learning as a process because of uni. And I'd probably still be small minded and somewhat bigoted if I hadn't gone. Simply because it forced me to critically evaluate my own views and also exposed me to a number of types of people I wouldn't have encountered otherwise.

It's a shame it's so expensive in some countries, because I think it's important to have a well-educated society more broadly.

  • Looks like it's available in desktop mode too, so will work anywhere on Linux at the least.

  • I just overuse parantheses instead, as you noted. You know you're rambling when you have several layers of them, like I'm writing a conversation in Lisp.

    • Don't use social media or news sites when you wake up, or before bed
    • Block notifications from social media and news sites, or uninstall altogether
    • Set time limits (like with leechblock-ng on desktop, or with simple alarms)
    • You probably don't need to read the news every day to be reasonably informed
