  • I had to start supplementing with psyllium fiber (powder) several months ago after a massive hemorrhoid attack last fall. (Surgeon gave me the identical advice.)

If I don't get at least 40 g a day of total fiber (about 20+ of which are the powder), stools get large 'n' hard. It's working, and my ass is thanking me.

What I'm having trouble squaring is I don't think we evolved eating that much fiber every day. Pre-agriculture it would have been (depending on which part of the planet) lot's of animal protein and whatever roots & berries you could find, right?

  • Just realized I've got a wide selection: Windows, removed, Android, and EndevourOS, and Manjaro. (I haven't booted the Windows box in MONTHS...)

  • Switch to soap strips instead of liquid detergent for laundry

What is this wizardry you speak of? [begins Google session]

  • Cake, sure... But that's gotta sting on arrival?

  • BOOGIE NIGHTS and MAGNOLIA, one on Christmas Eve the other on New Year's Eve--depending on my mood or what I did the year before.

  • (This is the exact scenario that occurred to me.)

  • Many seem to have the attitude that if you never use them, the bulbs will never burn out. Problem solved.

  • BOOGIE DAYS. A BOOGIE NIGHTS prequel. Limited series. How did Jack get into the business? Where did he meet Maggie--and Little Bill? Eddie in middle school. Maurice's back story. Etc. One episode for each character?

Give Paul ALL the money to write and direct.

I'd watch the shit out of that show.

  • I have a friend with FIVE CATS. I worry about her sometimes... Paula Poundstone has....12? 13? 14? I worry about her, too.

  • Here's a thread I can really use! I'm trying to start a new healthy habit, but I'm struggling a bit.

Having a birthday with a zero on the end of it this weekend. It's a bit of a mind fuck (as they have tended to be in the past.)

I'm a pretty healthy guy in general: still weigh what I did in college, been eating low-carb for several years... Been on a walking project where I decided to walk every street in my ginormous suburb while picking up trash as I go (it feeds my soul).

Which brings me to my struggle: I've recently been diagnosed with osteoporosis (fawk) which means, among other things, no longer putting off the weight-bearing exercises I've known for years are good for me (us). About a month ago I got some hand weights and have been doing a youtube workout thing (which my sister has been doing most of this year).

    So what's the problem?

I hate it. It's such a grind. The walks? I look forward to those! The fresh air, the sunshine, the podcasts, the sense of accomplishment, exploring new neighborhoods, seeing the progress... The weights? Ugh.

So I'm wondering what I can or should do to "get my mind right". It's very possible that it's going to be a "just fucking do it" situation? Maybe when I start seeing (and feeling?) some progress it will become self-reinforcing. Maybe I need to put on a podcast and turn down the volume on the workout vids...

Any advice? For you regular weight-pushers, what's your 'secret'? What get's you thru your workouts?

TL; DR: I need to start lifting weights and I hate it. Looking for advice.

  • Looks interesting, but I wonder why my Pixel 7 is considered "incompatible"?

  • It's a challenge, indeed. There's a whole lot of headline scanning, to be honest.

  • Been using RSS for 15, 20 years? 150-ish feeds? Feedly.com is my reader of choice.

  • Laugh, grimace, or down vote if you must, but I keep one handy and it works wonders. Clog-free in '23!

  • Well that's interesting. I've read more than one place the having uBlock Origin is "enough" and that adding Privacy Badger is overkill. I've also got AdGuard Home running on a Pi-4. I failed all three tests with Vivaldi Nightly and Arc Browser--both with uBO installed....

Simply adding Privacy Badger to the existing setup, suddenly I had "strong web protection".

[edit] Firefox passed without having to add Privacy Badger.

  • I open a can of sardines and slice open an avocado. Healthy fats and protein, low carb!

  • Came here to say this. I have probably 150 feeds I scan everyday via Feedly.com. (I like Feedly so much because it syncs over whatever device I'm using at the time.)

  • I suspect you're correct.

    Regarding Horace & Pete: I just finished a re-watch. I think it's brilliantly done.

  • Tried three times to get thru it. So for me, literally unwatchable. 🤷‍♂️
