I like to ask a variety of questions, sometimes silly, serious, and/or strange. Never asking in an attempt to pester or “just asking questions” stuff.

Will I migrate from Lemm.ee to elsewhere? I don't know yet. If I do, you'll see here. If not, never stop questioning everything!

  • I've not used retrieval augmented generation as far as I'm aware, so my reference point is what's been pushed to the masses so far (dunno if any of it incorporates RAG, correct me if I'm mistaken).

Looking it up I can see how it may mitigate some issues, however I still don't have much confidence that this is a wise application since at base it's still generative text. What I've tried so far has reinforced this view, as it's not served as a good research aid.

Anything it has generated for me has typically been superficial, i.e. info I can easily find on my own, because it's on the sites right there in the first page of search results. In other situations the source articles cited seem not to exist, as attempts to verify them turn up nothing.

  • Perhaps true, but with the nature of the errors involved (generating anything instead of error messages for lacking info) and requisite reviewing, which itself demands research (which was what it was being used to shortcut to begin with in this context), isn't it still something of an ill fit for this?

  • It’s not all that expensive, so why not? Lots of countries have big monuments, historic buildings for their legislatures to be in and so forth, this is just that in human form.

Are we sure they're not all that expensive, comparatively speaking to the monuments and historic buildings and the like?

  • you’re forced to have one for “networking”

Does it even do its job in this regard?

  • Comments like this make asking these questions so worth it. That's such a cool thing to know is happening somewhere!

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Which jobs has the internet largely eliminated, undercut, or reduced?

  • Cruising on a boat, spot a shark fin, "Hey pal want a tow?" Or if the boat has some kinda bay, "Flop aboard for a ride sharko!"

  • No Stupid Questions @lemmy.world

Are there rollerblading performances like ice skating performances?

  • Personally, and it might end me one day, but almost any kinda lizard I think I'd welcome in.

Also sometimes groundhogs look like they might like a brief lift to another patch of dirt to dig around in, or I dunno, maybe a brief snack run.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Which animals, besides cats or dogs, would you give a ride to or intentionally let in your home with barely a second thought?

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

What are some things you keep an eye out for a better, or different version of?

  • Lemmy @lemmy.ml

How do you think Lemmy's interoperability with other federated software (beyond Mbin/Piefed) could be improved?

  • Thanks for the heads up! I've not played paintball so I didn't know what kinda paint the standard stuff was using, and was mostly thinking about a way to minimize any clean up involved.

Kinda contrary to some of the fun of the game, but everyone likes to play differently.

  • Thanks for the link, and clear paint didn't occur to me, so that may be a good option too!

  • No Stupid Questions @lemmy.world

Given how paintball guns work, could you swap paintballs for waterballs?

  • Would taking notes from some dogs and rolling in foul stuff count?

  • Why limit your imagining to products alone? Even in that reply I'm not specifying person or thing (despite the use of "it"), and with the original question I'm asking either marketing oneself or something.

  • The internet has been carefully curated [...]

You mean the fuckin' corporate internet? 😜

  • Yes but also markets in general, because why not?

  • No no, if they could hire you for that you'd be marketable, but if you actively liked the product and kept talking them up only to make them uncool and refused being paid to or paid to stop, maybe? 🤔

  • I would think like however ungovernable is meant but directed toward businesses and markets.

I guess that may look like disregard for contracts, refusing to sell to businesses, applying for jobs only to string businesses along or ghost them like they have so many, or things like this?

Asking to see how people interpret and run with the idea, what they consider unmarketable and the ways to achieve it

  • As in you can't market it because it wouldn't sell regardless of how you may try.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

What ethical, or legal, ways could someone make themselves or something unmarketable?

  • May be too specific but have been inconsistently trying to get [email protected] going as a community to find alternatives/similar stuff to what one likes.

It's a riff on the old ifyoulikeblank subreddit without the initially unclear tagging requirements.

People comment, which is great, but few other posters.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Which default settings on anything do you look to change ASAP?

  • No Stupid Questions @lemmy.world

How does one snap their fingers?

  • Mentioning @[email protected] here to address you both in your similar corrections rather than duplicate my reply: I stand corrected.

I see that I had misconstrued my personal misgivings with the penalties of failing to pay with a lack of legal ownership.

It still feels off, precarious, to describe it as ownership to me, but I recognize what you're both saying regarding the legal standing of it all.

  • Own as in mortgages/loans paid off, I take it? That's the slight distinction I'm thinking of with expensive items that typically can't be bought outright. It's not wholly owned until mortgage/loan is paid off, which you kinda nod towards with your last sentence.

  • In the vein of houses and cars, yeah. I should get in a better habit of elaborating on ambiguous terms in the body, only haven't as I've mixed experience with people skipping over those.

  • No Stupid Questions @lemmy.world

Why do some say they own or have bought something that they technically haven't (e.g. domain names, expensive things, etc.)?

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

You have the opportunity to make individual words for which there aren't any, instantly adopted, which words do you make and why?

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Which plushies, set against each other, do you think would be most effective as the exclusive means of handling all conflicts?

How would you imagine things differing if all seating furniture had to be beanbag chairs?

Besides a tourist trap, what would you do if you found yourself with a puzzle house surrounded by a maze?
