  • I get it, I say that about onions, because lots of things come with onions without announcing it. Want a loaded baked potato, or baked potato soup? Don't forget to tell them No Onions, even the little green ones, or I'll be picking them out with my fork.

  • I haven't spoken to my Best Friend in 10 years, yet I still think of him as my Best Friend.

  • First we have to prove humans are sentient. My hypothesis is that it's a Spectrum. Everything is a Spectrum.

  • No, I meant that they created a demand by marketing up Halitosis like it's a major problem.

That's nothing new, they still do it constantly. Those women's deodorant commercials make women feel like they are carrying a cloud of funk around with them wherever they go, and they have to smear this deodorant over every inch of their bodies or they'll offend every nasal passage in the county.

Before you can offer a solution, you need to make them feel like they have a terrible problem that needs to be fixed immediately, at any cost. Even if you have to make it up.

  • I saw a RED bolt of lightning hit the ground about 30 feet away. It looked as thick and solid as a young tree sapling, and let out a mighty boom that sounded just as solid.

And it was red. Why was it red? I've wondered if it was just bright, and made my retina flare.

  • It's pretty close to the plot of Upload, where people choose to upload their personality into a hologram, so they can exist forever. I think. Its been awhile since I watched it.

  • Oh, yeah, a friend ruined me for life, when he said he doesn't like to watch horror movies, because he is always reminded that he knows that whatever happens in those movies, far, far worse stuff is happening in real life somewhere. I always think that now, whenever I watch a scary movie.

  • I remember when the Internet first came along, and everybody was so excited about the future potential for the improvement of mankind, and I just kept thinking:

"Have you ever met any People? This going to get really bad."

  • Listerine was a cleaning product until they decided to boost sales by positioning it as a mouthwash.

First, they had to convince everyone that they needed mouthwash, so they invented HALITOSIS (bad breath), and then offered Listerine as the solution.

Lysol tried a similar pivot, except they tried to market their cleaning product as post-sex birth control douche. Listerine's pivot caught on, Lysol's didn't.

  • The Andy Griffith Show, but I don't know about the adjective "weirdly." The show is supposed to be cozy and comfortable, and it succeeds better than any other show I know. Hilarious, too. Barney Fife is the funniest character in the history of TV. I even named my Lemmy handle after him.

Perhaps a better choice would be one of my favorite Star Trek series - Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, or Voyager. I record them on TIVO, so I have a huge bank to choose from. I often watch an episode as the last thing before going to bed.

  • Also a great suggestion. You can never go wrong with The Wizard of Oz, either. Nobody ever gets tired of it.

  • Cherry-picking The Bible is standard religious practice. Couldn't make money otherwise.

  • Great advice, Borokov. I, too, was more motivated by personal satisfaction than money, and consequently was there for all the great moments of my son's life. We are still best friends to this day. There is still nobody that I would rather have an endless conversation with.

We weren't rich, we often went without, but I wouldn't change a thing.

  • Show Sound of Music next time. The oldsters will love it, and the youngsters will see it for the first time, and realize how truly great it is. Peak Julie Andrews, womderful music, Nazis, what's not to love?

  • Found RFK, Jr's Lemmy account

  • Entire department is all nepo-baby interns on Summer break.

  • Valid. But they are a friend, and there is genuine affection, but also a mutual understanding that neither has an interest in pursuing anything more, for whatever reason.

Until one changes. It might be fun to make a list of movies which explore THAT topic.

  • People tell me that I'm really good at conversation, probably because after a lifetime of sales, I'm not afraid to ask a person really personal questions, and I do it on a friendly disarming way, and they talk. I have one rule:

When you know the subject well, contribute and ask questions. When you don't know the subject well, keep quiet, and ask questions. Everybody respects that person

What you should NEVER do, is try to cover your lack of knowledge by blathering on, making stuff up, arguing with people who clearly know more than you, intimidate people into not correcting you, etc. You will be immediately outed as a fraud, and NOBODY likes that guy. Don't be that guy.

  • Favorites of mine are:

    Beethoven: Symphony #7, 2nd movement

    Bach: Brandenburg Concertos

Pretty much any symphony or piano concerto by Mozart or Haydn.

Piano works by Chopin, Satie, Mozart, Beethoven
