Actually, this town has more than enough room for the two of us

He/him or they/them, doesn't matter too much

Marxist-Leninist ☭

Interested in Marxism-Leninism, but don't know where to start? Check out my Read Theory, Darn it! introductory reading list!

  • That's a pretty fantastical view. The Bolsheviks came in second, behind the SRs, who were fond of terrorism and were entirely backwards in theory and in practice. The SRs had also had a major split shortly before the election without most of the voters knowing. It was the bolsheviks that succeeded in carrying out the revolution, weathering the Russian civil war, and then solidifying the socialist state.

They didn't just murder anyone that had more support than them, that's a fanfiction view of soviet history. They were, towards the revolution, consistently the most supported among the working classes. The Left-SRs, who weren't really a coherent political force as the SRs themselves had a major split, supported the revolution and many ended up joining the bolsheviks anyways as the SRs faded away. The Right-SRs, who came behind the bolsheviks, had some join the bolsheviks and some join the White Army.

All in all, the bolsheviks were supported by the majority, and the CA was being phased out in favor of the soviets anyways.

  • Not really true. The Bolsheviks won out in the Russian civil war, and afterwards some groups took up arms against the socialist state, and were thus killed off. The people by and large supported the bolsheviks, the terrorist cells were not really supported.

  • Not yet. We will win.

  • "Tankie" is a strawman. It's a pejorative for Marxists and anti-imperialists, filled with falsehoods and contradictions. The purpose of calling someone a "tankie" is to turn them into this strawman in the eyes of onlookers, it terminates the conversation. An example of this is you claiming so-called "tankies" think Russia is still a socialist country governed by a communist party, which is absurd. Russia does maintain strong ties to socialist countries like China, does oppose the western Empire, and does have rising socialist sentiment in the broader population, but absolutely isn't socialist.

The PRC is socialist, though. Public ownership is the principle aspect of the economy, and the working classes are in control of the state. Huge state owned industries are the backbone of the economy, while mixed forms of ownership make up the small and medium firms. Socialism isn't the absence of private property, even under Mao and the Gang of Four there were still large numbers of private firms.

As for what you call "authoritarianism," what we communists support is the working class using state authority against capitalists. Authority should be used by the working classes. This confusion of yours is why you misunderstand China. The PRC is by no means "late stage capitalist," rather it's relatively early in socialist development:

All in all, I suggest you listen more to these so-called "tankies," rather than letting your imagination run wild.

  • No, this is fundamentally wrong, akin to saying NATO and doctors without borders are the same thing. If you erase every distinguishing characteristic and just look at things as "organizations" with no further investigation, you absolutely ruin your viewpoint. I already explained how a wide gulf separates fascism and socialism.

  • Usually confronting your biases takes a catalyst, you don't just do true passive introspection without prompting.

  • Depends on the instance, but generally revolutionary socialism is supported.

  • Lemmy is filled with people who are newly radicalized or generally progressive, but haven't really confronted their internal biases yet.

  • It's the opposite, because in socialism the working classes are in control and production and distribution are collectivized, to satisfy the needs of all. In your fascist example, corporations are entrenched in the state, giving capitalists far more power without collectivizing production and distribution, retaining production for profit.

  • Collectivizing all production and distribution to satisfy the needs of everyone, ie socialism, is the answer. Not merging corporate and state power, which is the exact opposite.

  • Great article, highly recommended for anyone reading through this thread.

  • Every time.

  • Hexbear is explicitly pro-vegan, and takes care to make it a space where you can avoid seeing meat consumption if you wish. That's why there are CWs for meat.

  • No major instances block Lemmy.ml, by the way. Some users take issue with the pro-communist stance of Lemmy.ml, but that's nothing new for communists to deal with.

  • No major instances have blocked Lemmy.ml as far as I know, and users blocking Lemmy.ml doesn't prevent us from seeing their content.

  • Nah, Lemmy.ml isn't really blocked much. No major instances block it as far as I know. Lemmy.ml is just fine as an instance for tech, games, and comics, just post here!

  • You can criticize China, there's just good ways and bad ways of doing that. Overwhelmingly, "critique" just means dogmatically repeating red scare-style nonsense seeing China as an enemy, and not genuine critique.

  • Liberalism is the dominant ideology of capitalism.

  • Marxism and anarchism are the most comprehensive umbrellas in the socialist side, and there are very few non-Marxist-Leninist Marxists on Lemmy in my experience. Don't really know what you mean by "socialist" that isn't already covered.
