  • When I joined Mastodon in the November migration, I wondered why media organisations weren’t spinning up their own servers. Give all the journos an account on that server and there’s your verification right away.

  • Personally, I'm continuing my efforts to not be a racist piece of shit.

  • Oh, that's bloody handy! My work Mac is too old to run iPad apps, so I thought I'd have to have my own laptop open on my desk.

    Thanks!

  • I have this trouble a lot when trying to digitise or refresh some of the older documentation our company uses. It often becomes easier to just recreate it, by the time you've fucked about trying to restore the formatting.

  • Not sure how I can increase their already stratospheric Dreamies intake, but rest assured I will try.

We adopted a lovely pair of cats at the weekend, who are settling in really well. They're Certified Good Cats.

  • I guess I don't really watch too many 'bad' movies because I don't have many in my head, but the first thing that springs to mind is Velocipastor.

But is Velocipastor really a bad movie if it did exactly what it set out to do?

  • Bubbahotep

Bubba Ho-Tep is a fucking masterpiece and you'll sit in the corner and watch it as many times as you need to to change your way of thinking.

  • STRESS

  • I don’t see writing by hand as “intentionally inefficient”, I see it as an extremely easy way to reconnect with physical creation of some description.

We’ve all been trained to believe that we have to be as efficient as possible in order to maximise our profitability. But why? Why not take a few moments to do things a slower, more thoughtful way?

I like writing by hand - where appropriate. It feels nice to put ideas on paper. And as a bonus, those ideas don’t then get hoovered up whichever company made whichever app you’re writing into.

  • Not with that attitude.

  • Punk.

I'd been pondering a change in career anyway, but I was at work one hot summer's day, sweating my arse off, listening to my tunes on the stereo in the workshop. Pennywise - Same Old Story came on and something clicked in me. Cycled past a tiny local radio station on the way home, went in to ask how to volunteer my help, and a couple of months later I was starting on a radio production degree.

That track still fires me up to this day.

  • I bought this one as soon as it became available on BandCamp.

  • Meanwhile, Dexter has a PhD and owns a hot sauce company.

  • To be fair to them, they released Smash just in time for skate punk to suddenly explode into the mainstream. They went from punk scene kids playing shitty dive bars and squats to being up there with Green Day, Nofx, and Rancid at the top of the punk tree, and kinda wanted to stay there. So Smash is a legitimately brilliant record, Ixnay On The Hombre is great, then they hit their formula with Americana and cruised along that rut.

  • Zappa and Beefheart are both acts that I view as art first, music second. Yes, technically they made music, but it was in pursuit of artistry, to break the rules of music as an art form.

  • At The Drive In > The Mars Volta

Relationship of Command is a magnificent slab of work.

  • I like her music well enough, but I think there's something about how she's ruthlessly effective in the music business, but acts like she's still just the girl next door. To be fair though, if she was genuinely how she comes across, she'd be walked all over in that world.
