  • The ‘victim card’ is the conservative ‘race card’.

Except only one of those is real, while the other is made up by those trying to use the first..

  • If you try to inject this conversation into normal discourse you might be surprised how fast you discover some people’s prejudices against mental illness.

Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised at all, I've been making these points for years and have had some truly toxic reactions.. The irony would be delicious if it wasn't so harmful..

  • No, what there has been is an increase in an already prevalent phenomenon (see: mass shooters) of blaming mental illness and/or personality disorders for abusive, violent, and flat out fascistic actions, when they don't actually cause those, it's just so much easier to do than to think more deeply and/or critically about the systems and structures that don't only enable, but encourage such behaviour, especially in those with privilege and power (because actually mentally ill people are much more likely to be victims of violence and other abuse, than perpetrate it).

Using diagnosable conditions as shorthand for "abusive" or "toxic" or "harmful" or "violent" or "racist" or whatever else, is ableism. It deepens already existing and harmful stigmas, prevents people from seeking help and support and being open about their struggles, and actually puts them at greater risk of further abuse just for being diagnosed the way they are, even if they've never hurt a fly.

    In short:

“Are you saying that murderers are right in the head??”No there’s definitely something wrong with someone’s way of thinking if they can justify killing innocent people, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that they have a mental illness.Extremist beliefs isn’t a mental illness.Bigotry isn’t a mental illness.Entitlement isn’t a mental illness.Hate isn’t a mental illness.Having a dysfunctional moral compass isn’t a mental illness. We need to stop categorizing all these things as some undefinable “mental illness” and start looking at what we do as a society to develop and justify these things to a degree where people use them to justify killing.Yes!Dehumanization is something you Have to look for. If the murderer doesn’t see the person they killed as a person, then mental illness is probably not the main factor there.Plenty of people murder women, poc, lgbt people, people of other religions etc. because they don’t see them as people.Think about genocides - they aren’t perpetrated by big group of people/a government who all got mentally ill together the same way at the same time somehow, they just didn’t consider what they did murder because they didn’t see the victims as people.

  • he does not get labeled as such in the news anymore

That's because the philanthropy is working exactly as intended - to white wash his reputation, and make him out to be "the good billionaire".

Moving down from no. 1 to no. 5, at that scale of wealth literally has no impact on him, but rather it's money well spent to take the heat and attention off of him so he can continue exploiting an hoarding in peace.

  • At least it wasn't you who did it, and you got a cool gift out of it lol

  • You say you'd check, but couldn't look up "boiling water flowers" before replying here? At least when this happened I had the excuse of not having the internet yet (and being a literal child, following the obviously unclear instructions of a professional, to the best of my understanding)..

  • An antique crystal vase my parents received as a wedding gift.I was maybe in my tweens and bought flowers for some occasion (a birthday or anniversary maybe) and the florist said I should use boiling water to keep them fresh (yes, it is a thing), but obviously I misunderstood, and not knowing any better I added the boiling water directly in to the vase (which I chose because it was my favourite) and of course it exploded in my hand. Lucky I wasn't hurt, and I did manage to glue some of it back together, but I was not getting away with it. My mother was furious.

  • If it won't let me untick all but the essential cookies easily - close tab, move on.

Recently I realised that some "reject all" options still don't reject the "legitimate" bullshit, so I now avoid those sites too (and no, I don't trust that extensions that claim to reject all for me will actually reject all).

I've got better things to do with my time than scrutinise these cookie pop ups and/or go through lengthy lists individually unticking options. Fuck that noise - don't have minimal respect for users? Then I'm definitely not providing you any of my data (the sites that make it the hardest rarely hold information you can't easily find elsewhere)..

  • I honestly hadn't even processed the content of the post and just replied to the title🤦‍♀️Glad I went with my gut and didn't invest any more than bare minimum energy in to replying to this..

  • This, just keep in mind that these places are often first come first serve, and only have limited spaces each day, so check in advance, and be prepared to turn up quite early to get your place in line (I have done this myself, it's a bit of a hassle, but the treatment was as good as any, and was supervised the whole time. Their work is still in place over a decade later).

  • Sadly I don't think any nationalised healthcare services provide free dental (aka luxury bone care) anymore, I know the NHS doesn't, even the very few of their dentists that remain in the now almost exclusively private, and expensive, sector, charge money for treatment (at the top tier which covers complex treatments, it's £300+, and this resets every 2 months, so if your treatment takes longer, which it is likely to because of lack of appointments, you have to pay that again).

  • For starters, the name, as well as the "ideal" itself is an oxymoron - anarchism is about abolishing hierarchy, and capitalism is the epitome of it. The two are inherently incompatible, in the same way nationalism and socialism are, and will lead to similar results.

In case you're not trolling (which I seriously doubt, but still) - stop watching whatever content it is that got you here, the pipeline you're on leads directly to a bunch of fascists and child abusers.

  • It’s great that we take care of our elders

You mean of our rich people.

Because the government treats our non-rich elders like shit, just like the rest of us, there are over 2 million pensionaries living in poverty in the UK (and many more millions just shy of it who don't make the statistics but are still struggling):

    https://ageing-better.org.uk/news/50-years-progress-against-pensioner-poverty-under-threat-state-ageing

    https://www.theguardian.com/society/2024/apr/16/nearly-1m-uk-pensioners-deprivation-official-figures

Yes, there are probably more rich people who are pensionaries than other generations, because they had a significantly easier economy to navigate, and of course more time to accumulate wealth, but don't confuse that class divide with the divisive propaganda spread to maintain a generational divide to keep us from joining forces against those who have and continue to exploit us (the general population, of all ages, back when the pensionaries were young, and still now).

  • Lmfao, anyone still putting their hopes of abolishing capitalism in electoral politics (or the governments that result, and their actions), at the very least, hasn't been paying any attention, and has very little to no understanding of how the systems at play work and interact.

Playing by their rules within their game (this includes not only electoral politics, but also shit like using housing as a commodity, however supposedly noble the intent) is never going to set anyone free from it.
