  • I've had second thoughts about posts I've made in the past (usually because they proved to be unpopular with the majority), and have deleted my post. Why sit there and rack up downvotes for no reason? Now if a post I've made was unpopular, but it generated fair and good-faith discussion, I'll keep it up.

  • I'd have an open and respectful discussion with them, asking the following questions: Are they safe? Are they in full control of the money they earn? Is this their own decision? Are they happy? If they answer positively to all of these questions, then I wouldn't have anything more to say. It's their body and their life, not mine.

  • Second this. I don't really listen to a lot of mainstream stuff, so Bandcamp is really awesome for finding really great indie stuff.

  • Heheh....a very wise man once told me that 'every truth begins as a heresy'. In the 30+ years since I was told this, I have found it to be completely accurate. :)

  • I think it's okay as long as it is a temporary thing. I would definitely look into a quality therapist who can address any underlying issues.

  • I honestly prefer Lemmy over Mastodon. My experience with Mastodon has been one of screaming into the void with very little actual engagement with anyone. Also, it just seems like everyone is trying to sell their product or advertise their blog. It probably depends on which tags one chooses to follow, but I grew tired of it very quickly. I haven't had the same experience with Lemmy for whatever reason, which is why I prefer it.

  • As has been mentioned before - Howard Zinn. His 'A People's History of the United States' is jaw-dropping. This book literally changed my life.

  • Right, so leaving jobs off your resume is probably not a good idea. Year-long gaps in your employment history will get you passed on, as well.

  • So if you're keeping off any jobs that you've worked at for less than 2 years, does that mean you lie about dates to cover up the gaps?

  • Which, if the retailer has any kind of a brain, will be followed by a polite request for a demonstration of how you were using said tool when it broke. They know what to watch for to identify scammers, trust me.

  • I believe a fair and reasonable restocking fee is absolutely justified when customers try to game the system. Having worked in several retail establishments over the years, I can tell you that this sort of behavior is rampant and I've seen lots of really shady shit from people, including:

    • Buying clothes for a special event and then trying to return them the next day.
    • Buying a tool to fix something in your home, and then trying to return it the next day.
    • Breaking an item that you purchased, and then wanting to return it, claiming that it is defective.

People are opportunists. If there are no controls in place to keep some people from doing shitty things, some people will do shitty things.

  • If there are no STI's involved, I fail to see how it's anyone else's business. Unless your partner decides to willingly divulge this info, of course.

  • I meant the type of event where nudity is present and expected.

  • There is always a social media propaganda campaign going on. On just about any subject you can think of. Is this really the first time you're noticing? You do know that governments, political parties and corporations employ people whose only job is to study and manipulate social media trends, right? What do you think a social media 'influencer' is?

  • People with a highly metaphysical worldview are easier to deceive and manipulate because their normal logic barriers have already been broken down - ie, if you already believe that the earth and everything on it was created by an omnipotent superbeing in six days, it's not much of a further leap to believe that demons are making you horny.

  • Sure, at some point we all have to realize that our actions may attract unwanted attention and take appropriate precautions. That being said, no means no. If a lady is obviously uncomfortable by your presence, put on the big boy pants and move on - don't try to argue your case or convince her of anything. Just move on and leave her the hell alone.

The sheer amount of acronyms used to explain my behavior is beginning to look like the eye-chart at the vision clinic.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

    Isn't Lemmy a treasure-trove for AI scrapers?
