  • I think I'm at the top of mount stupid, because I'm certainly not competent.

I started with Linux Mint and daily drove that for a while. Really liked it too. Then I noticed that screen sharing ssssuuucked when playing games, and since Mint's Wayland didn't want to work on my machine, I decided to jump ship.

I'm currently on Nobara (Glorious Eggroll's Fedora flavor) and.. it's just pretty easy to work with.

Or maybe I'm at the know nothing stage, along with PopOS

  • I think a lot of documentation just fly over my head. I have a masters degree in mathematics, but so many manuals have such deeply ingrained "tribal" language that everyone takes for granted that you know.

If you have a good starting point for a poor linux noob to read manuals, hit me up.

(That being said, I DO read the manuals for appliances and all that. THAT stuff is luckily easy)

  • I recently replayed Metal Gear Rising, and when Armstrong kept talking about how much of a pussy America has become and started yelling that with him at the helm, he'd MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, I was fucking shocked.

Granted, I know that term was an old Reagan term, but fuck, with Metal Gear Solid 2 (2001) being all about the internet flooding with misinformation and AI making it so that you don't truly know who you're talking with... And with Rising (2013) being about a dude thinking America is too removed and wanting to make it great again... AND WITH DEATH STRANDING (2019) being all about everyone being locked inside their homes, isolated with little physical connection to their friends and families, only waiting for the mailman to arrive with packages...

Whew, if I had to point out a person I suspect may have a functioning time machine, Kojima might be it..

  • NT here. Usually, it's more or less whatever.

What has been going on lately, are you working on something specific? What're your hobbies like, etc.

It depends on familiarity with that person, and it depends on what I think that person would be into. I'd love to grok out over games I've played recently, but not everyone is into that, so I assess the situation first. My wife is also NT and she's mostly the same. She wants to grok out over all her pencils, markers, paints and other art stuff.

I usually keep the grokking out to my youtube channel :P

I guess you could classify these things as "small talk", but I like knowing what my friends are doing and what's going on in their lives.

I saw someone else mention they talk mostly about other people, but I don't necessarily do that too much. At least not in the gossipy way.

If you have any more questions, hit me up :)

  • Completely agree! It makes for a game that's still super healthy to this day, and I love that

  • Paraphrasing from Frost here; It's the "stop killing games" movement, Yves. It's not the "stop games from dying"-movement.

It's fine if you no longer want to support a game, but you can still make it available offline if you have a lan. Trackmania is a good example, since ubi now owns that. The original is still being played in lans the world over!

So yeah, fuck you, Ubi. It's a choice to be like this.

  • I'm gonna say FunnyJunk. It's mostly right wing memes and downvotes if you say anything close to "I don't think this Trump gut has it all figured out"

  • I've started using Nobara recently, and I like it a LOT. Makes it really easy for a noob like me to both play games and edit videos. I actually made a Monster Hunter video entirely in Linux with Davinci Resolve, and it worked really well. I've been an adobe tool my entire editing life, but I really like the switch I recently made :)

  • Thanks. I had hoped it'd be the cart itself

  • Does it write to the card, or does it just write to your storage?

  • **I appreciate the help immensely. ** First thing I needed to do was figure out how to get grub to show, and to do that, I changed a file in /etc/default/grub to have the menu style be "menu" instead of "hidden".

Second I tried adding the nvidia_drm.fbdev=0, but it would boot directly into the default version of Mint (x11). I then had to disable auto-login in the lightdm.conf found in /etc/lightdm/

After that, I finally booted into Wayland again after adding the temporary parameters and... I get a black screen again, sadly. At least the TTY works so I can get out, no problem.

I did a bunch more tinkering that I found online, but after a lot of trying and failing and trying and failing, I went back to x11, only to realize that the driver manager was well and truly messed up. Could not get it to start at all. Ended up feeling pretty happy I took a snapshot of the system before I started all this, cause I could just rollback everything and now it works like before. (Still no wayland though, but whatever :P )

  • I am a teacher by trade, so I absolutely love helping others. I'll absolutely pass it forward! This is also how you build a healthy community, I think :D

  • Alright, I've managed to open the TTY when trying to boot into Mint(wayland). You were right! It's probably an issue with my nvidia drivers. I'll see what I can do. Thanks

  • Interesting. I'll see if I can figure something out.

Answering your question, it booted to a black screen. The screen was "on", it wasn't complaining about not recognising a signal or anything, so SOMETHING must've transmitted. I'll try spamming some keys to see if I get a reaction. Thanks for the tip

  • Oooh! I see, thank you!

Yesterday, I tried booting into Wayland on Linux Mint, and I got NOTHING.

I rebooted and got nothing again. I tried the Ctrl+alt+F(x) key combo, but that didn't work either. From your explanation, it sounds like I should've been able to at least get a terminal for that, but it didn't seem to work. Could that be because graphically, it WAS displaying something after all?

Ended up unplugging the screens from the GPU and tried plugging it straight into the mobo instead, and it ended up working after all.

  • Forgive my dumb ass for asking an easily googleable question;

    What is tty?

  • Rambling post incoming:

I love the series, but man am I frustrated by it.

I love when they try to tell a story. Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow is simple, but effective.

The others just build on this, but the best team is still Team Rocket to me. Actual gangsters instead of maniacal, delusional gits who want to end the world... It's too much.

Team Skull are wonderful as well.

Black and white had a great story and I really, really like Bianca's journey in that game. She's not very good at what she does, but she's compassionate. A little sheltered too. Her dad is always asking her to come back home because he doesn't believe in her, and with failure after failure almost goes along with it and gives up. I love that she doesn't.

I also like the villain speech here that Pokémon don't like being used for fighting, but I really believe that it could've been better if they didn't undermine their own point by fighting with pokemon. I mean, I get that the main dude, Ghetsis was just bluffing, but everyone else believed it, so why didn't they choose non -violence?

After the series went 3D, I've disliked it. I liked X and Y, but I felt like it was a little too light on new stuff. Only 60ish new pokemon feels a bit low. There's a good game there somewhere, but... It's not where I want it to be.

Sun and moon was the same. Love the new ideas, but it's getting bogged down a smidge by performance and repetition.

Sword and Shield definitely has great things going for it with vibes, but lacks substance. No caves, no dungeons, just a led-by-the-hand tour.

The DLC was a smidge better, but even then a little lacking.

Scarlet/Violet barely holds together. It's ugly as sin, its level progression is whack and the open world does it NO FAVORS! All I want is for pokemon to seem like actual animals in the wild. I wanna see them interact with each other, but they NEVER DO.

Legends Arceus was also the same here, though I like the battle mechanics here. It feels unfinished and while pokemon in your party can interact, the world itself feels... Lacking.

My favorite game in the pokemon series (including spinoffs) would be pokemon mystery dungeon for the story, and Pokemon Snap for the interaction.

Core series would be either Black and White or Heart Gold/Soul Silver. Those games really spoiled us

  • Holy shit, that hit the spot. The bag fucking up at the end is just the cherry on top. Chef's kiss!

Every little thing just gives a small "..eghhhhh..." Feeling
