Hey there! I am a science/technology enthusiast and regular contributor to Wikipedia. Elsewhere you may find me with the @[email protected] handle.

  • Doing good! Really happy with where I'm at in life currently.

  • I don't go out of my way to get news, so social media/Lemmy. Except for local news, which I do follow more closely. But that's it.

  • I know they had a word block list but I'm unsure if it's still around.

Hate speech is defined by the Cambridge Dictionary as "public speech that expresses hate or encourages violence towards a person or group based on something such as race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation".

  • Sounds like it sorts out the right kind of people? I'm not aware of anyone actually asking you to write an essay, no one would do that. 2 short answer questions does not an essay make.

  • It'll drop a little, but to a significantly higher level than it was before.

  • It's so refreshing having a statement written by two people, instead of a board of lawyers.

  • Which they have been doing. They added a bunch of mods to local communities. But it just wasn't enough, according to them.

Its surpassing [sic] how much they want to control what other people see.

Well that's what they've said from the beginning. They wanted a more curated and friendly instance, rather than having the old reddit culture.

  • Or go to any of the other non-blocked instances.

  • Either Kbin or Lemmy would work fine.

  • Makes sense, posts can be (and are) automated via repost bots. Commente and genuine interaction is impossible to fake.

  • Matrix is open source and has the same ethos as other projects like Lemmy.

Discord is closed source and is similar to Reddit in principles.

  • They'll appoint new mods. New mods that don't have any experience or any professionalism. New mods that may not even be the age of majority yet. It's a dumpster fire waiting to happen.

  • Donations. Click on the heart on the top bar to support Lemmy development and lemmy.ml hosting. Other instances have their own donation boxes

  • That's right. [email protected] is different from [email protected]

Note that you can use your same account to subscribe to both of them, as one may be more active than the other. Feel free to pick one or both it doesn't really matter. Different websites/servers have slightly different rules and different culture, so the posts and comments will be slightly different community to community.

  • Privacy @lemmy.ml

What's the easiest thing for most people to do to improve their digital privacy?
