I'm especially sensitive in my neck, so when it's long enough to reach, I feel and am annoyed by it constantly. Like 10 years ago when I was growing out my short hair too I also just put it in a bun, but I left it there for so long because I was so sick of it that I literally had dreads when I took it to it eventually. Had those for a while until they got too long. I also feel like it's a bit silly to have long hair if you're only ever gonna have it in a bun. Why not just cut it off then. Same end result but way easier. I guess technically long hair in a bun is better if you want the option to have it loose, but to me that's way more hassle than it's worth.
Same here. It's simply not as active as Reddit, obviously. But I found that I was wasting way too much time on Reddit anyway. Infinity was still working for free this whole time, which was the 3pa I used for years, but I still deleted it about a week ago. My sub feed was way less active and the all page was even worse than usual with 80% just aita kind of text posts. I'm on lemmy maybe 30 minutes a day, but that's a good thing for me.
I don't hate kids, but it would be a horrific nightmare for everyone involved if I had some of my own. Never wanted them, never will. I do adore my niece.
I wish I could let my hair grow out. I tried for 3 years because after I got medication that helps with overstimulation, I thought/hoped long hair wouldn't bother me as much. Boy was I wrong.
I did that for a good while when I was really sick of having my hair cut, and I thought at the time I could get away with a buzzcut, but looking back on the photos... I really can't. I'm stuck with barbers for now
It was a pretty cheap barber which was all I could afford then, but it also means they don't take quality as seriously as more expensive barbers. I've had a disconnected undercut for years and they were always messy as hell with the lines but I used to have long hair that I mostly wore down so it wasn't really that visible. Now that it's really short you can see everything and it just looks messy and ugly. It's such a shame because the 20 minutes in silence was really amazing.
Yeah, I totally get that it meets a certain need for a lot of neurotypicals, that's why so many barbers are like that. I'm happy for them it exists but damn it can be rough to find one who is more introvert/autistic friendly
That assumes you have bought you own house which you can alter. Where I live it's 60% owns and 40% rents, but the cities, where it's much warmer and which heat up faster and thus need ac the most, have more renters than buyers. So you're dependent on whoever you're renting from to do anything like that.
Lmao. We do need ac though, the problem is Europe has a ton of older houses which were build when it was much more beneficial to try and keep warmth in rather than out. And it's a pain in the ass to retrofit all these houses with ac. I live in a flat which was build about 15 years ago and the difference compared to my previous apartments is enormous. Still no ac, but it's not needed here because of proper isolation and smaller windows.
10 months clean baby 🤙I quit for lots of reasons but the idea that my cats would be scared and alone and have to be rehoused if I died is absolutely one of them.
There is more variety for sure, but my point kinda was that most people, men and women, don't really make full use of the variety there is. Almost everyone dresses kinda dull. Women have easier access to special and colorful clothes than men (although the latter can definitely find some if they look for it) and they do use it a slightly more but actually interesting clothing takes a little willingness to stand out that most people simply do not have. Maybe it's different in other countries though - where I live conformity and not standing out is woven into every aspect of our culture.
I definitely do. My dumb-dumb brain doesn't really get the whole neurotransmitter thing, but as stingy as it is with dopamine and nor-adrenaline, as generous it is with endorphins. Oh, you're 5 minutes into your cardio warm-up of your hour long work-out? Enjoy this heap of endorphins for the next 2 hours. I feel good, it's extremely meditative because thoughts are just on pause, I love getting stronger and more in shape, and I always go in the sauna at the end of my work-out which is a huge motivator before going and makes it all even better at the end. I always walk out of the gym completely zen and satisfied.
If you don't get such an easy endorphin rush, I don't know what to do. I can imagine it would suck in that case.
I used to have a pretty intense not-like-the-other-girls fase in my teens, and I never wore skirts or dresses, and felt the same way you do. Then I got over that internalized misogyny and started experimenting with clothes a little, and the first time I put on a dress it was like a hallelujah moment. The most comfortable thing in the goddamn world. They do not restrict your movement at all, that's only a problem if you wear knee-high pencil skirts of stiff fabric. In colder seasons you wear leggings under them which are equally comfortable. It was so incredibly comfy I did a complete 180 and it took me 10 years to wear a pair of pants again, and that's only because the waist high mom jeans in style now are so loose and non-restricting. Any other style of pants I won't touch with a 10 feet pole.
Mainstream clothes for sure, but I feel the same way about mainstream women's clothes. Waist high jeans, an inoffensively colored top and a vest or blazer. Switch out the jeans for beige linen pants in the summer. Yawn. If you want inspiration for some more interesting clothes in general but men in particular, you gotta look to non-mainstream subcultures. Especially ones that don't give shit about gender. I hung out with hippies for years and men and women alike are dressed in cool, colorful and interesting clothes. Both genders wear pants, dresses, and skirts. It heavily inspired my style and believe me, I stand out a lot among other women. If you want more variety you have got to look further than what's mainstream. Because that'll always trend towards boring and basic.
