  • And it’s not like those were one-offs, COINTELPRO was crazy in scope and did massive damage beyond just the murders.

It’s not like that’s all in the past either, just look at how the Palestine protests were handled as well as the Floyd protests.

  • Yeah if you’re getting very into the weeds on it Is there some minor difference between how that classless/stateless society operates?

Sure but most of the difference in analysis and conclusions is on how to arrive at the classless/stateless society.

The differences between the vision of classless/stateless societies communists and anarchists have is minor compared to pretty much any other broad 2 political ideologies have as what visions of the perfect society is.

  • Cuba has sent doctors and other medical support to countries of many different ideologies. They would 100% assist an anarchist group if asked and it’s something they could provide.

Currently China and Vietnam are both willing to trade with countries of any ideology.

You’re latching on to a couple examples in the past and saying nothing else can happen besides that. If that’s going to be the extent of your argument no point in continuing this since there’s nothing left to talk about then.

  • There’s some historical examples where that may have been the case but that’s not some universal constant that can’t be changed.

Fundamentally they both want the same thing in the end so disagreements on how you get there can be resolved. If 2 different areas/groups try 2 different paths there’s no reason they can’t work together where mutually beneficial.

Would people have to get over being too overly dogmatic about their way? Yes and that may be difficult but not impossible.

  • Which is the end goal of communists, but you can’t really have a stateless society until all or nearly all countries are socialist unless you’re going the anarchist route.

  • Finally made the switch over to Linux yesterday, kind of cool it was on the anniversary!

  • Someone else will hopefully have more specific details on the situation.

In general the economic situation isn’t great due to the blockade since as an island nation they have to Import anything (like oil) that isn’t a natural resource on the island. Blackouts and other energy issues have been a problem due to that.

Trump recently increased the blockade and I know due to COVID their tourism industry was hit pretty hard.

Some silver linings to the situation:

China has provided solar panels that should help strengthen their grid and provide them a source of energy that can’t be blockaded.

They recently became a BRICS partner member which should hopefully give them some ability to trade even with the blockade.

Vietnam recently has raised millions in an ongoing effort to send donations to Cuba.

    Edit:

Also if anyone is interested in learning more about Cuba and its history I’d recommend the podcast Blowback season 2.

Adding some links to explain how democracy and elections work in Cuba and why the government still has such large public support:

Teaching a bunch of lies about American exceptionalism and how imperialism is actually good isn’t what I’d call “fact based”

    Stop racism in policing

Right like how democrats in nearly all major cities increased police funding and almost none passed any meaningful reform.

    Expanded healthcare subsidies

But don’t remotely consider universal healthcare

    Preserve democracy

Preserve the status quo which I wouldn’t call a democracy. A democracy enacts the will of the people, democrats don’t even have a democratic primary for their own party.

  • As others have said no one source should have blanket trust.

Understanding the bias the source may have by looking up who owns/funds it and understanding how that might skew what you’re reading is important.

For news based on studies I usually will try to directly to the study which should list the methodology which will help show how well done it was.

If I have time later I’ll put together a list of ones I use and what I’ve seen as their biases.

  • Pseudoscience is always going to attract people who want to feel like they know more than others without putting in a lot of work on studying things.

Terrance Howard also believes 1x1=2 so wouldn’t put a ton of stock into his other theories but haven’t heard of this one specifically. Like the other commentator said if he at some point shows concrete evidence I’m happy to admit I’m wrong but he hasn’t had that for his other stuff so I’m doubtful.

It’s really nice when others are jumping in to help and I see you posting great takes a ton.

  • It’s wild to me that when she realized she had to somewhat distance herself from Biden she chose to say she’d have a republican in her cabinet. Not something about helping the working class more, or not supplying and funding a genocide that’s incredibly unpopular with what should be her base.

Stuff like that along with “having the most lethal military” and campaigning with Cheney alienated leftists, student, and Muslim voters which all could have been easy wins.

Economically people don’t feel better under Biden than they did 4 years ago which while the inflation largely isn’t his fault she still needed to meaningfully project she would be different than him to get working class voters and she didn’t effectively do that since she wasn’t pushing a populist message.

She clearly doesn’t know how to campaign well (pretty sure I heard she had Clinton staffers giving advice to her campaign lol) but that shouldn’t be a surprise since she was the first candidate to drop out of the 2020 primary.

  • The specific comment I responded to was talking about whether liberals are leftists.

If you’re asking whether I believe liberals support a little wealth distribution (specific amount depends on the individual) in the form of taxes for social programs I’d say yes the meme isn’t absolutely correct.

I’d also probably recommend to you just to save you time is to not take leftist memes (or any really) as a literal/specific endorsement of a policy or idea, it’s likely an exaggeration.

  • Didn’t say you couldn’t attempt some wealth redistribution under capitalism but it’s not really related to what the discussion was. The left/right dichotomy for political economics isn’t based on whether there’s an attempt at wealth redistribution it’s whether the economic system is capitalism.

Also at the end of the day you can try to gain concessions from the capitalist class through social programs but there’s a hard limit on what will be allowed and as soon as the capitalist class is able to they will push for austerity for the working class. It’s been seen numerous times in history.
