  • I'm imagining these are smaller efforts given the 500sh reviews on the first ones page. I'm wondering how hard it is to do it properly while keeping solvent. Like the Croc game looks good while the first Tomba looked mostly the same as I remembered it.

  • I'm not sure that I liked how they rewarded you new tech after engaging in combat with several of their ships.

  • One of the big missed opportunity items for me that comes to mind is The Elder Scrolls Online. Originally it was intended to be a first person MMO. That still exists as an option, but when the game isn't build around it then it is more of a "oh, that is fun to swap to sometimes" thing. It was probably better for the life of the game to switch to third, but we will never know.

    Coming back to Bloodlines 2, It sounds more like being unsatisfied with combat balancing around first person. I want to try the game to see what the author means. Is it actually difficult to have some awareness or are they just not vibing with the feeling of being whacked from an angle they can't see? I feel like most gamers assume a third person now, especially with an RPG.

  • I'm using a very very old nook and enjoy it. I kinda want whatever I use to be just for reading, and nothing else. This way it all points to one thing. I also have like a first or second Gen kindle but it, while technically better, is slow as heck and filled with bloat.

    I am tempted by modern colored e-ink, but I hear it isn't super color accurate yet.

  • I am trying Floorp as of yesterday. I like Zen Browser, but their github contributers list makes it look like it's mostly the effort of one person and that always gives me pause until somethings been around a while. Floorp seemed more spread out so I decided to try it despite its silly name.

    I'm interested in how ladybird shapes up.

    Worth noting that you may have DRM issues on some forks with video content. I don't think you will on Linux, and someone clear this if you can, but I think the alternate used can't do 4k video? I'm not a big web media consumer so idk. Has something to do with Widevine I think.

  • The guy who made the Backblaze software said it was already done and was easy for their standard client to work with Linux but never got rolled out because Linux users are power users. I wonder if that is the real reason when it comes to Proton. It's not unlimited but maybe there is some power user use that they anticipate and don't want to deal with.

  • It looks more like multiple companies were needed to pin the individual. I don't expect any company to not comply with legal requests. My understanding is this is why it's important to know what information a company retains.

    For my own use, I have used Proton just to mitigate being a source of ad info and to get better service. I'm not interesting enough to overthrow anything.
