  • ... calling them partially responsible for the Nazi genocide is a stretch at best. If I am wrong feel free to educate me with a source.

  • I was unable to find contact information quickly, but I highly doubt that they are willing to do that. I just can't see them going "Yea, we thought 30 days are fine. Let's give you a year (or two)"

  • ricecake gave a good answer already. In the EU you have 2 years. In the first 12 months the company has to prove that it wasn't their fault, in the next 12 months you have to prove it was their fault.

If no such law is in place, nothing protects you from them using cheap materials that break after a few months.

E.g. I once had a free xbox-replica controller every year because their product was shit and it broke after ~6-9 months. They had to replace it and did so three times. Then I got my money back. Selling * doesn't work here.

  • In general I agree. People should be able to make informed life choices without pressure. However, I don't think universal basic income is the solution (see below). In Germany we have no public university fees and you can get Bafög; which is a far from ideal conditional income enough to cover housing and food while you study. You have to pay a part back once you are done, but far from all (at most 50%; often less than that). I wouldn't mind a study UBI.

I am for social security and social services that allow you to make an informed choice of what you want to do. Beyond that I am for "you have to work". But I am looking at "work" from an European perspective with all the protection laws in place and not an American perspective.

The main problem with UBI (Universal Basic Income) is that while tests showed benefits (highly depending on countries), financing UBI is difficult. So far no larger country has completely adapted UBI at least partly due to that reason. Also, no study was long enough to see the "people are less incentivised to work" issue.

  • Deserving to live and surviving are not the same. In the natural condition if you don't gather or hunt, you have no food. You die. You do not deserve anything.

Even in society you are not entitled to others working for you. However, in a civilised society we should provide for those incapable to provide for themself due to ethics.

  • Either you are misunderstanding something or I am. I don't think Gewährleistung applies here because it is not sold to the German market but instead you import it from the American market.

  • I get baited every time :( thinking "Ah! Finally a watch I can buy!" Then I, again, see the 30 day warranty (that would be illegal in my country) and remember that this is not a good buy for me. Good luck to all buyers.

  • Linux @lemmy.ml

What are the best reasons people have given you for not wanting to try Linux?

  • Yea, CCC actually has a huge problem by being too ethical. Apparently they had cases were the data protection authority did not force companies to disclose the leak because access by CCC does not constitute access by a malicious third party; absolutely bonkers. Just because the malicious party didn't open their mouth doesn't mean they haven't accessed the data, you pigeon.

  • Volkswagen (VW) had a massive scandal that showed how dangerous this is. By leaking driving behaviour, VW leaked hidden military bases, politicians likely visiting prostitutes and more. Lucky for them ethical hackers (CCC) found that and did not use the data.

  • The frames might be the first VR I buy.

  • Hungry for knowledge, are you?

  • Alone. 0%.

  • 9.5 However, just because I can doesn't mean I have to. I had discussions with a traditional Nazi, with an antisemite, with Corona deniers, ... I've studied philosophy which teaches you to take other viewpoints to understand the inconsistencies.

But doing it for a long time is extremely exhausting which is why I refuse to discuss renewable energy with my father; who's not categorically wrong on that topic but narrow minded and only educates himself as much as needed to believe some convenient half-truths.

  • The main issue is that there are not enough users and not enough creators. Also, instance space is often limited.

I sometimes take part in a German ttrpg streaming group and I thought about convincing them to also upload to peertube but most instances that are focused on that topic simply don't interested in hosting 300+ new videos that are each 3h+.

Apart from that platforms like twitch "guarantee" a small revenue stream and YouTube a large audience. PeerTube is harder to sell both in regards of outreach and revenue. However, I think if you are producing for the English market PeerTube can be very interesting revenue wise as some PeerTube creators report that they get more donations per viewer than on other platforms.

It is a german song to rile up oldfolk that feels threaten by the young. It just really hit home as my father is a big sceptic of renewable energy and repeats again and again that we will see how this will ruin the economy. I am just exhausted

  • They have a warranty of 30 days for manufacturing errors... Wouldn't be legal if they would sell in the EU. Apart from that sounds interesting.

  • I really like the idea of randomly elected representatives. Sure, they will try to better their situation for afterwards but with enough corruption control (which is probably easier to implement), this will only ensure that they support their kind of workers a bit more than the rest.

  • Electoralism == Democracy

  • I love it that the page is designed to advertise multiple pieces of software but stopped at curl ^^

More coming soon. Or not. I don't owe you shit.

ffmpeg is definitely also a candidate for this.
