  • Developers should still try to optimize Linux performance with native Linux ports.

  • Given the geopolitical influence of the U.S. and the consequences of fascist-controlled social media platforms being used to sway elections in favor of fascist candidates, there's ramifications to the acquisition beyond the borders of the U.S. alone.

  • They can have a big tent without making it a Nazi bar, but still choose to do so. They deserve the consequences of that decision until they kick the fascists out of their tent.

  • There are, but the roadblocks to installing Android derivatives on most Android phones would probably reduce the F-Droid install base by at least 90%.

  • Not sure what the best solution for sports is, but the simplest, most reliable option for streaming is a debrid subscription used in conjunction with Stremio on MacOS, Vidi on Apple TV, and Stremio Lite or Vidi on iOS.

While there's free websites that aggregate streaming servers for movies and tv shows, their unreliability arguably makes debrid reliability worth the added cost. Here's a debrid service pricing chart.

  • Not only is Nintendo raising prices, but cutting jobs like that shows that they're far too focused on profit over anything else.

  • Their decisions seem to conveniently become 'mistakes' whenever there's public backlash...

  • In most cases, most release groups already fine tune encoding settings towards various balances of file size and quality, so the best option is to decide on a set of release group whose standards meet your needs and just use the files as they come without further modification.

Applying lossy compression to a video that's already had lossy compression applied to it degrades it unnecessarily, so if you're going to compress it yourself, it's best to start with the remux, aka the original media file.

I'd personally recommend releases from members of the qxr group and Vyndros.

  • "Shareholders want them to pump out loot boxes, not novel content!" -Exec, probably

  • Definitely a good idea for mobile, though if on desktop, I'd suggest bypassing the website altogether and using a torrent aggregator such as Jackett, which can be integrated into qBittorrent via an extension.

  • In the case of 1337x.to, the megathread lists 1377x.to as the fake replica of it. In terms of quality, 1337x.to is one of the best public torrent indexers.

While I personally prefer not to use YTS releases due to their low quality, and can't seem to find a legitimate YTS link that yts.mx would be the replica of, as long as you're downloading via Prowlarr rather than going to the website itself, the only risk is the trustworthiness of the releases, rather than the possibility of ads or otherwise unwanted links on the website itself.

  • That's not going to keep them from selling it.

Their defense is the need to keep Firefox "financially viable", but if that keeps them from being able to broadly state that they won't sell our data, it's better to use a fork that prevents Mozilla from accessing that data in the first place.

  • As long as scarcity increases revenues from enterprise customers, they have no incentive to increase the supply of gaming GPUs back to a level that fulfills all demand at a price that doesn't rip off consumers.

  • I think the Lego games would work well due to their relatively simple 3D platforming gameplay and two-player, drop-in-drop-out multiplayer across most of the games. The Skywalker Saga is one of the most recent ones, though the older ones are often available for $5 each and are fun, if a bit repetitive. Lego Star Wars, Lego Indiana Jones, and Lego Harry Potter are the ones I grew up with, and are therefore among my favorites, but there's over a dozen of them in all.

For something a bit more original, Lego City Undercover also has the typical Lego multiplayer gameplay, along with an original plot with lots of humor tossed in.

  • The affordability of a Pokemon game being $120 after factoring in the cost of its two DLCs?

  • They probably made more than $20 million from kids buying loot boxes without parental consent, making the fine just a cost of doing business...

  • Stremio comes with a few addons for content navigation by default, but to actually watch most things within Stremio itself, the unofficial Torrentio addon is needed. There's other content addons too, but Torrentio seems to work the best.

Torrentio itself needs a debrid service API key to function, with Real-Debrid being the cheapest at about $3 a month.

  • Black Flag was the first one I played. As a result I then played Rogue and 3, then tried 2, which seemed mechanically a bit outdated (might try it again; just wish its health UI were more like Black Flag's), so played Unity instead. Still have to try Syndicate, which seems to still be mechanically similar enough to the original formula to be interesting.

Played Origins past the first boss fight, but stopped since it no longer felt like an Assassin's Creed game. Odyssey and Valhalla appear to replicate the Origins formula, so skipped them altogether. Might try Mirage at some point, given its lack of the RPG mechanics of the prior three games, but probably won't get Shadows due to it seemingly returning in part to the RPG formula.
