  • I don’t think it matters much but on principle your ISP should not be a rights holder of any media.

  • Not ironically this would mess up granny and granddad when they activate it accidentally.

  • Try earplugs! Even just turning the volume down 70% changes the intensity of words. With earplugs in I could let somebody curse at me to my face and just let it slide. But without, even ambient noises add to a state of unease. A motorcycle driving by has a lot of subtle negative impact to everybody who hears it. You don’t have to be deaf to enjoy the benefits of silence. Hearing is a choice, but most people default to full open.

  • It’s all about ignorance and intent. If you grow P.somniferum ornamentally, and/or shake it out for seeds it’s fine. You can even sell the dried pods for floral arrangements. But if you make tea out of the dried pods, or milk the latex it’s illegal. Which is insane since the pharmaceutical opioids are so much more harmful and dangerous.

  • What are you talking about that’s the breadseed poppy.

  • It really depends on the location, terrain, weather, and distance. Most of my hikes I just go in trail running shoes and bring a water bottle. That’s usually enough for up to 5 miles. Further than that I’ll pack snacks. I plan for one snack break every 2 hours or 5 miles of walking. So a nice hefty snack can be good for up to 10 miles. Beyond that I need a meal, like a bagel sandwich. That’s good enough for up to 12 or 15 miles. Beyond that I might bring a pint of beer or something extra like a huge cookie. If you’re going more than 20 miles per day I doubt you need any advice. I’ve done 32 miles, and it was just a lot of snacks (and water).

As another commenter said, trekking poles are nice sometimes. For me I only use them when carrying a load, or for loose or slippery terrain.

  • She won’t learn to make good decisions unless you let her make bad ones.

  • The problem is less about the screen and more about algorithmic curation.

  • I’m a real beginner with this stuff and I read through the install scripts before running them. But it wasn’t for security, I just wanted to see if I could learn some tips since I had already struggled to do it manually.

  • Not really true for an addictive substance like sugar. It changes your whole taste threshold, and leads to more sugar in everything else you eat. For the same reason diet soda is still bad - it has the same dopamine response in the brain and leads to more real sugar consumption than an unsweetened beverage.

  • A relationship is more than just a promise or commitment. A relationship is a chance for both participants to grow and challenge each other, while also supporting each other. It also makes your domestic life easier, as each partner only does have the work (in a slightly larger quantity). Relationships are not transactional. Each person gives when they have capacity, and each person receives when they don’t. Strengths and weaknesses cancel out and both are better off together.

It sounds like you’re not currently interested in a relationship. Probably best to be up front about that with your candidates.

  • No, but I would be nice if they charged for mileage separately. That would give a discount to more local businesses. Of course they may also have to bid based on your distance to the hardware store.

  • Memorized in 6th grade. An optional goal in class to complete the “60 second sweep”. It only went up to 9, but we had to get in front of the class and do them all in 60 seconds.

  • Go to the library a lot. Learn and master the art of lock picking. Make more friends at school (networking). Wear crocs way before they’re cool.

  • The first thing was growing a beard. For a man aged say 18-25, having a beard makes people treat you like an adult, while being clean shaven you are treated as an adolescent. No I’m not joking.

Second for me was financial independence. Even a stupid things like exiting the cellular family plan.

Third I think is hobbies. When you gain self confidence in your skill in something you love, even if it’s just hiking or metal detecting, you may care less about others opinion of you.
