Guitars, pedals, drums, bass, cats, F1, board games, D&D, other interesting things

  • Ring ring ring ring ring ring ring

    Bananaphone

  • Jurassic Park, I was 8. Saw it at the cinema and was hiding behind the seats. It still hits a bit hard.

  • Guitar for 25 years with some bass and drums in there too, play in one band atm but always on the lookout for new stuff. I should play more.

It's a shame the music communities here aren't as vibrant as reddit but far less people over here. I live in hope that it'll get busier!

  • Pro tips, ty! I was hoping for something mobile friendly but this will definitely help!

  • Maybe safe is the wrong word in my post. I mean keeping the data safe from meta in the respect that I don't want them to have it. Their record in data privacy is not so great so I'm keen to keep my data away from Meta if I can.

  • Asklemmy @lemmy.ml

Forced to use Facebook to interact with local groups and businesses. How do I keep my data safe?

  • +1 for reaper. Its free to "demo" forever with no limitations and is much closer to a traditional DAW than audacity. So many plugins and scripts to customise too, such a great tool I can never recommend it enough to anyone wanting to do anything from simple audio edits/conversions to full fat tracking and mixing sessions.

  • Nice.

  • Game changer!

  • +1 for taskmaster. The James acaster season is top notch

  • A drawer full of emergency makeshift weapons? Yes. Also a junk drawer? Yes, more than one.

  • +1 for notesnook, self hosting coming soon

  • Like others have said it depends on the field you want to code for and language choice. The field might inform your language choice.

I'd highly recommend python as your first if you're just looking to get stuck in. It'll teach good fundamentals, it doesn't have a steep learning curve and it has a very wide set of applications plus loads of community support. This website is what I recommend to anyone wanting to learn python: https://futurecoder.io/

    Good luck!

  • You're right! I missed it somehow

  • I also tried Joplin and while it's great while using it, there's no background sync and never will be. That's a huge pain when you're mobile and need to get at your notes but have little or no signal.

  • I've been getting on well with notesnook, the self hosting is in beta right now but its just a docker container. Docs are coming for self hosting in the near future.

The criteria for me when I was looking for a notes app were:

    • self hosted
    • e2e encrypted
    • supports images and other rich media as well as text
    • can use markdown for text formatting
    • supports mobile as well as some desktop interface
    • can make lists with checkable boxes
    • background sync

Notesnook hits all of these. I wish it had a dedicated desktop app but that's something I can just use a browser window for.

  • It's the same game and no major changes to the story, but bosses have some legendary actions, it's more difficult to find things, long rests cost double, no save scumming, everything is more expensive etc. What i've found is accidentally failing a roll has caused some real problems for me down the line, the thing that can really screw you over is a bad roll rather than a tricky combat.

  • Still on my honor mode run of Baldurs gate 3, still in Act I. Doing this will 100% the achievements.... So I need to!

  • I just replaced my headphones with a set of these https://global.beyerdynamic.com/dt-770-pro-x-limited-edition.html

They're so comfortable and sound incredible, they're mostly intended for audio work which I do use them for but for gaming they're so precise and clear too! Also incredibly comfy and loads of aftermarket stuff available for the dt700 pro x which are also excellent.

You'll want a mic with these and I can also recommend this if you want a headset style mic rather than a standalone one on your desk: https://antlionaudio.com/collections/microphones

  • +1 for smack the pony
