  • 4 days a week, 4-6 hours per day. Having a third weekend day is wonderful, and it really helps with running errands and making appointments. And I have a hard time doing anything for more than 6 hours in a day tops. Unless I’m on my meds, I’ve got about 3 hours of focus before lunch and three after, and that’s it. Which isn’t much of a problem in my current role, where I usually have more time than I need. What I hate the most is the obligation to sit at my desk for 8 hours a day, every day, even when there’s nothing to do

  • In this context, the meme is talking about liberals not in the American conservative vs liberal sense, but in the liberalism sense. Whereas leftists, who most Americans would think of as “extremely liberal”, are not actually liberals at all, since we oppose free market capitalism and private property.

  • I am here to chew bubble gum and post memes in the memes community, and I’m all out of bubble gum

  • Despite the meme, I totally agree! Most liberals I encounter are well-intentioned, but have been indoctrinated into thinking that capitalism is the best system we have available. Being patient and answering questions that explain what you actually believe, not what they’ve been told you believe, goes a long way. That said, being patient like that definitely a skill that is not always easy to get right, and certainly takes practice.

  • I’d love to retire to a cozy inn with an endless pot of stew

  • Exactly. If it wasn’t clear in 2016, it certainly is now - Trump is a symptom, not the root problem

  • Then why bother?

  • Contributing to social programs is a good thing - we should judge a society based on how it treats the most vulnerable members. And I want to live in a world where everyone, no matter who they are, has their needs met.

  • Very cool! I had no idea this was a thing! Very up my alley - I’m going to dig in some more, thanks for sharing

  • I am a relatively new Yunohost user, and I’m a big fan. I’ve dabbled with Docker, but I’ve never been quite able to figure out how to make it work. Yunohost took the hard part away and made it pretty easy to set up.

That said, I don’t view it as a long term solution for me. I don’t like not really knowing entirely how it works, and I’ve had issues trying to configure the reverse proxy to connect it with a domain name. (I purchased one from Porkbun, which is apparently not supported.) Until I learn a little more, though, I like it.

  • Maybe made to feel othered via bullying as a kid, so voluntarily isolated in their teens and early twenties?

If so, then yeah, I can certainly see how that would stunt social and emotional development

  • I’ve heard this a lot - is it just a common joke in privacy circles, or is anyone using Tor/Tails actually likely to be on a list?

  • A roommate’s girlfriend rummaged through my drawers and took some small bills and change from my dresser. My roommate sided with her, saying it wasn’t a big deal.

Our friendship soured, I got a new lock for my room that only I had a key to, and I set up a security camera on my desk. She never did do it again after being caught, but it made the rest of the time I lived there not particularly pleasant. I always felt slightly on edge, keeping an eye to make sure nothing had been moved or taken.

  • Well shit.

  • TLDW?

  • I guess a better question then - when is the juice worth the squeeze?

Like, I’m sure that government agencies have an interest in tracking who is making what comments pseudonymously online, but it would take a lot of effort, computers, money, energy, etc to constantly scan and store information for everyone, right?

Which is where we get into different levels of security - I’m going to try harder to hide my identity if I were to pirate a movie vs browsing Wikipedia.

I guess the question is: who is motivated to collect what information, and what needs to be done to make that identifying information useless for them to connect the dots?

  • Although, what are the odds someone goes to the length to match writing style and personal details that you let slip while using a pseudonymous account against an online presence where you are identifiable?

I’m sure it’s possible, especially if there’s a reason you might be targeted, but I imagine it’s still pretty challenging and time consuming
