  • At some point we had to throw away all our plastic containers as it become insane to match them. We bought one kind only. Tr8ed to go for the perfect one size for all in good quality. No more issues ever since. Same with socks. We bough one kind black and one kind white. No more matching. I recommend it for everyone.

  • I used to get it why people install chrome. It had a specific look and feel. It's no more, all browsers (except some startups making up the rules) look the same. Its a full page window with tabs on the top. Vanilla FF looks the same.

  • Not on linux from scratch

  • OpenTTD

  • Just use notepad++ with wine like any normal person do

  • I install windows from command line only

  • Google's approach of just monitoring your behaviour in the browser is still the most humane and it pisses me off that you literally have to serve all your data to them so they can even decide to serve you with their ads.

  • Linux @lemmy.ml

What is the easiest way to try all the DEs?

  • I'm in and out with linux for the last few years. It really boils down what do you want to do on your PC. If you are into online gaming or you need some specialized software for your work you are pretty much better stay on windows. However for general use its awsome. I have replaced many of my software even on windows to foss tools. There is a small learning curve and you will certainly need the terminal in the beginning but overall not terrible. For me it was a pleasant experience seeing mostly everything works without effort. The two most popular desktops (KDE and Gnome) are fairly polished and you question a lot of things in windows after using them. In general using linux a bit gives you a new perspective on how to use a PC.

  • This is only true for webservers. If you check all the servers in the world windows server is leading. There are industries that work with windows mostly like factories, banking, any office business in the world.

  • I have been to some shady pubs and nightclubs in my life, non of them had so much violent people as a linux bugreport thread.

  • He did say his keystrokes were playback in a few seconds. No way you realize what is happening and yank the cable this fast. This is the type of situation where people sit and watch the chaos unfold

  • I was doubting the fact that the only function of windows is to run video games. Literally every business in the world runs on windows PCs

  • I'm not sure is you are joking or serious.

  • Have you tried zerotier? Another option is to get a vps with unlimited bandwith and setup ovpn server on it. Then you need a router that can connect as a client to vpn. This way you will have a public ip and you dont need to mess with tunnel services. A vps with public ip is about 10 bucks a month.

  • Its for development and testing not to play around.

  • Will try. Any benefit?

  • Coffee @lemmy.world

Someone asked how I make iced coffee. Here is my simplistic way

  • I take a 200ml glass and overfill it with ice. I pull a double shot directly on it and the ice collapses till the brim. The double espresso I pull visibly fills half or a bit more of the glass due to the ice. Then i top it up with a bit of milk no measurement.

  • I will try this. All summer I have been just pulling espressos directly on ice cubes the added a touch of milk. I know its a crime but whatever, I liked it a lot and got me going.
