  • I looked into porkbun and it seems that they already offer a Cloudflare API for dynamic DNS. Why did you choose to separately use Cloudflare? Bit otherwise it looks promising to give it a try.

  • I have a cronjob that runs every minute to update the IP address. I could try to increase it to every hour or so. In the beginning I tracked how often the ISP changed the address and it was roughly like once every 24-30 hours, cannot really remember.

  • So there could be a potenital issue where the correct IP address has been sent but the record has not been updated ... Yesterday for example we faced the issue that at least one of three could not access the server. Suddenly it worked for someone who could not connect, only for him to lose access again after a couple of minutes. We all have been in Discord during that time, and the internet connection was fine for everyone.

  • The server is running at my friends house who has a fiber connection. When we face these connection issues, it does not necessarily mean that all of us cannot access Jellyfin but often times only a couple of us cannot access (same error as if you mistype a web-address, so it cannot resolve the domain name). During these periods of connection issues, the internet connection of my friend is working completely fine. I have a script running that constantly sends the current IP address to the dynDNS provider. I also looked into how often our ISP changes the IP address and it is not very often and not during these issues.

  • Thanks, yes I also use a script that constantly sends the current IP address to the dynDNS provider. I could be completely wrong, but the internet connection of my friends house where the server stands is fine even during these connection issues. So I would blame the DNS resolution, but it is also my first time running a server.

  • I am using dynv6.com. The reason I blame the DNS resolution is because when I have issues connecting (as if the domain is not available), it does not mean that my friends cannot connect either. The server is at a friends house who has a fiber connection and who has no issues when we habe trouble connecting again. I could be totally wrong, but to me it sounds like dynv6 has some troubles.

    I also have a script running, which constantly updates dynv6 with our current IP address.

  • Jurassic Park is one of my most favourite movies ever. Although they come not even close to the first one, I still rewatch 2 and 3 from time to time. But Jurassic World is a disaster for me. The second one was already so bad that it caused losing my whole interest for the World franchise.

    I still cannot believe how much they butchered this franchise and the initial vision for the book and the movie.

  • My Casio A 168 - I like watches and typically I would opt for more expensive ones but I still marvel at the amount of watch you get for this kind of money. The design is great, very comfortable to wear, very precise and has a very good battery lifetime and background light.

    Someone else already mentioned a safety Razor.

    My iron pan - much healthier, more ecological and will last longer than I will ever live.

    Obviously my bike. Saved so much money on it. Although I still need to figure out what I should do with my very rusty chain. Should I replace it?

  • I also have one which hit break-even years ago compared to thouse Gillette Mach 3 etc ones. I am also using Proraso shaving soap, but for my sensitive skin the red one is the best, followed by white. Started with green and tried it again two months ago, bit it is not as good as the other ones for me.

  • I did a refresher course two months ago, but I haven't gotten around to buy a motorcycle yet. But everything is there, I just need the bike. Really looking forward to it. Stay safe!

  • I would also add that it heavily depends on the setup a user is running. I had been running Arch with XFCE and dwm for years on a machine with a Nvidia card and I can count the number of issues I had which were not induced by my wrong-doing with three fingers. When I switched to Plasma Wayland on my new machine I faced more issues in one and a half years than with my old setup. Also, none of these issues were mentioned on the news section but were due to Plasma updates. There are just too many moving parts under heavy development with such a big DE and Wayland is also not quite 100% there yet, so for some people it can seem like Arch is rather unstable although it still is a heavy generalisation.

  • I see what you mean. Sometimes I wish I could tinker with it the same way as I was used to with Arch. But in the end, it just works and goes out of my way.

  • You have complete access to the AUR via Distrobox. Also, how do you conclude that it has "many issues"? I do get that Bazzite might not be for everyone, but please, elaborate.

  • Bazzite is absolutely great, if you just want a very reliable system that just works and goes out of your way. I lean nowadays way more into recommending Bazzite to new Linux users, since there is literally not much to initially set up, no matter the hardware. Gaming works perfectly fine and any regular users software needs get easily satisfied by the Bazaar.
