  • I know it’s not exactly what you’re asking for but fedora is reaaaally nice. I don’t think I’ve had a single “unstable” package and it’s kept up to date really well. The only concern I have with it is red hat, I’m just hoping they don’t decide to enshittify

  • I grew up on macOS, until a few years ago where I actually had my own personal computer for the first time, which had windows pre installed, so i used that and like it a lot more than macOS, i just felt so much more free, and the general workflow felt more intuitive to me, then, early this year, i switched to Linux and there’s no way in hell I’ll ever go back. In just a couple months I learned more about how computers worked than I did over something like 12 years of using computers as a teen. It’s really crazy to me how once you get something set up on Linux, it just works, and all of the documentation is open and detailed!

  • If I had to take a guess, it’s probably from the voltage of the battery, if you have a volt meter/multimeter you can test out how the batteries work before putting them in

  • No way! I’ll have to try this when I get home! I’ve been using alvr with mediocre success so if steam link works I’ll be so happy

  • Good point! I didn’t catch that earlier, that one’s definitely wrong

  • I’m on the west coast of the US! Washington to be specific.

  • I’d actually argue that my usage is correct here, it’s probably a regional thing but imo, set up means the verb of setting something up, whereas setup is a noun referring to a specific way that something was set up

  • Isn’t this that one guy who always steals content from people and sexualizes his sister?

  • As much as I hate to admit it, I asked ChatGPT, because like you, I couldn’t find any good tutorials/guides about setting it up, ultimately ChatGPT gave me exactly the information I needed, if you need some help I can send a template config thingy later

Finally set up nginx as a reverse proxy.

  • 1: something East Asian; Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Thai. I’d be happy with any of them, I just can’t decide.

2: something Hispanic/South American, basically just Mexican food.

With any two in those categories there’s enough variety for me to spend my life eating

  • My neck hurts like hell if I tilt my head to the right, no idea why

  • Yep! I wrote this post right at the start of my search, so I didn’t realize a lot of cameras had detachable cables since mine definitely doesn’t!

  • Ooooo, this looks really promising! I'm a little sketched out by the low price, it seems like a too good to be true kind of thing, but I might actually go with this! I'll let this post simmer for a bit longer to see if there's anything else that's just perfect, but this might take the cake!

  • That does look quite impressive! Probably out of my budget for now but I'll keep that in mind if I feel like I need something with every bell and whistle!

  • Hmmm, I have an old iPhone 5 that might do the trick, @[email protected] was suggesting something similar with my actual phone, but using this might work out, I'll have to test it in a few minutes after the battery has charged a little

Edit: Looks like it's actually broken beyond belief, the touchscreen barely works and the home button doesn't at all. Definitely a no go.

  • I currently have an iPhone, which has some similar things to DroidCam, but I'd rather not use it like that. On that note, https://vdo.ninja/ is a cool website. The GoPro knock off idea might be good, it looks like the Apemans are sold out right now, but I might try something similar if I don't get any better suggestions. Thank you!

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Does anyone have suggestions for buying a webcam?

  • I use Equibop, for whatever reason it’s the only discord client - official or not - where screen sharing works at all, occasionally it’ll crash as it tries to start the stream, but that’s rare and it usually works after I open it up again

  • I read ten word problem, so was confused by poems

  • I don’t wanna share too much information, as it’s fairly identifiable, but I’m working for a local wedding venue today! It’s run by this sweet older couple; I’m their only employee, they pay me pretty well ($21/hr and I’ve gotten a $3 raise every year I’ve worked here), and they basically treat me like family.

Formally, I am an “Event Associate“ but they’ve affectionately titled me as “Event: everything we don’t wanna do”. My primary job is to take a wedding plan, and actually make it into reality, we have a custom floor plan every wedding with a number of antique furniture and decoration choices. So effectively this is a labor job, but they let me have as many breaks as I want and they make me sandwiches sometimes.

My favorite part is at the end of the night where there’s a bunch of leftover wedding food that I get to take home for free!
