  • In my opinion, it's always been about determinism and convergent evolution. Determinism states that if the cards were reshuffled and evolution were to take place again from the beginning, more or less the same would happen. There wouldn't be sentient octopuses or hive mind ants controlling the planet, because there are simple evolutionary pressures giving rise to features that eventually lead to more or less bipedal apes.

This hooks into convergent evolution. This is about the fact that features like wings and eyes were so successful in terms of evolution they actually evolved independently of each other multiple times. Eyes evolved in different lineages and evolutionary pathways around 65 times during the history of earth. This indicates that simple evolutionary pressures (like needing to look around) will always end up with something that is a lens based retinal pigmented organ. This deterministic view of evolution leads many to believe that on another planet that looks like earth, inhabitants will look like us due to the rules and constraints of evolution.

  • Fuck that scale bar though. The decimal separator makes it look like the human hair is 10cm thick.

  • Can one of our available scientists please confirm how much lbs a mussle can bench-press?

  • Crazy redundant. Had to make the hard choice of either cropping or giving credit.

Has this one been posted yet?

  • Set realistic goals

  • The first person to coin the word meme was Richard Dawkins in his book 'the selfish gene'. He also postulates in the same chapter that religion is a particular form of a meme. So you're one hundred percent correct!

  • You should read the book Superintelligence, it's very interesting, and catches not only possibilities and limitations, also societal impact.

  • Do you use the swipe function? I used to, but recently it's been a bit horrible

  • Some friends of mine in new Zealand had their own company growing and selling lily's and other plants. Became a huge thing, bought a huge house. A decade ago they sold their entire company and went to picking strawberries. They just pick strawberries all day every day, and they love it. I was pretty jealous. So maybe you could stay in your field but just a completely different position. You'll already have connections and experience.

  • Nobody mentioned steel panther yet. Quality stuff

  • Omg Abby, I want her so bad.

  • That definitely helps! Thanks for writing it up, highly appreciate it. I didn't even know repeating negative prompts had an effect haha. I just started with screwing around with sdxl, and made some very basic stuff, but I've yet to try changing it up with inpainting. But the img2img trick, I'm definitely gonna try. Thanks again!

  • That'd be very helpful, I'm looking to start using stable diffusion for dnd purposes, but my results vary in quality haha

  • This is really cool! Can you tell a bit more about your prompting methods and models?

  • But it's not about hopelessness. It's about coming to terms with having lived a full life and being fully ready for a dignified end of it. My girlfriend works in a Dutch nursing home and has had the privilege of assisting a couple of euthanasia tracts for the elderly, and she says it's one of the most magnificent things she was able to do for someone, emotionally speaking. People are very clear about the reasons (which have to be not only discussed, but thoroughly vetted by 2 doctors) and do not make this decision lightly. These is a very high level of clear communication between the family, doctors and patients about all relevant aspects for everyone involved.

I think when you and I reach that age, we will have very different thoughts on life and death.

  • And public speaking... And improvisation.. And conversational skills.. And strategy.. And creativity.. Am I missing something?

  • The wake up lights work really well. They're designed not to interrupt deep sleep (which results in grogginess). I've had one for years. But regular circadian rithms work best, always go to bed between the same ~ 30 min. Try to hit snooze only a set amount of times. Morning walks and cold showers if you can handle it. Note that one (or all)of these implementations won't give results overnight, you need to give your body some time to change hormone cycles.
