  • As long as you make sure you take them out including the roots they should be fine. Water them well after repotting.

Also, I imagine you could report the community owner or in the worse case, instance list the accounts of their admins, so you could dm them

  • This is why I was suggesting you would have conditions to apply these bans, for example that other admins you trust are applying them

  • I think that should happen too

  • I think that's a simplistic view. We've seen people defederating or asking for defederation for the existence of a single community. Just because instance admins have different ideas of what's tolerable doesn't mean the rest of the communities at large can't collaborate.

The point where admins would have settings to accept/review ban lists was to reduce the risk of abuse

  • Can you choose which ones to apply and which ones not to?

  • lol I wouldn't be surprised if it did and I didn't know about it

It does surprise me because from what I've been reading the mod tools and ban capabilities were... limited

    Alternative to defederation

  • It does, to a degree.

One of the ways Lemmy sorts posts is by local. being on a bigger/busier instance will return more stuff there. Also 'All' will return stuff from communities that at least one person from your instance have subscribed, so same thing, more users more results.

Another thing to look for is instances position on defederating other communities, requirements for email/application, etc..

Ideally you will find a community that appeals to you.

I picked lemmy.fmhy.ml without knowing much. I did so because they allowed NSFW without being a NSFW community. I couldn't be happier with my decision

Good luck and enjoy the lemmyverse

  • There are things like grammarly to help you with your grammar (and a tiny bit of style)

Many writers and copy editors have YouTube channels and tiktoks with tips and tricks. For example, you can look for how to show instead of tell on YouTube and you'll see a few.

Brandon Sanderson has a whole bunch of them on wold creation

If you decide to 'train' with fan fiction, you can give wattpad a try to publish your stories and see how people like them

  • If you enjoy it, you absolutely should.

If you think you may want to publish a book, there are also a ton of resources (free) online to help you write properly. World and character creation, style, etc... It's very different to write just to enjoy putting your ideas down, than actually building a novel or screenplay.

  • Yes, but I believe there are plans to add a feature to Lemmy that allows 'backing up' an account among instances

  • tis' done

  • lemmy.fmhy.ml now runs on v0.18!

  • Thank you guys. Happier every day to having chosen this instance

  • The continuous refresh makes the site mostly unusable for me in browser. I'd prefer updating to fix one of the biggest bugs the site has

  • Make it a rule that all post be NSFW so Reddit can't monetize it

  • You don't need to go to other instances too see their content. You'll see it cached on your own.

If you click on communities (magazines?) And select All you'll see some from other servers.

There are community explorers that can help you find communities in other instances (like lemmyverse.net)

If you find any there you like but don't appear in kbin, you can open them and instead of a suscribe button they'll have instructions on how to add them to your server

  • If you search for 'whatever' selecting 'All' and you don't get the community, you have to search for the whole thing [email protected], and after a little bit it will appear searching for the keyword.
