  • Basically this. The project head might be a bit too paranoid, bellicose and problematic, but at this time a phone with GrapheneOS seems to be by far the safest way to have a smartphone, and the project head's personality might be a part on this as their stated objective is to be able to resist state-level actors, you likely need someone who's more than a bit "out there" to have the right mind for this

  • I have family that believes this and LIKE having ads, so yeah... 😓

  • I keep meaning to learn Forth since reading the Wiz Biz books ages ago

  • Ah fuck!

Edit: After reading more info on the situation it seems like there was no malice, but this has been handled in an outright lousy way, this software has important privileges on the phone and was handled spectacularly bad for an app aimed at people who care about privacy.

However, there was a silver lining here for some of us which was pointed there: The upgrade to version 2 was a potentially breaking one, so they published it in a way that would not upgrade automatically, so lots of people including me still have version 1.30.0.4, and are unable to automatically upgrade, need to do multiple manual steps to get to version 2. I think I'll wait a bit before upgrading to see how they handle things, OR if there's a fork by a person with a modicum of common sense.

  • The sad thing is that this is exactly how they think, have seen it myself, extremely "If you're not with us you're against us" mentality

  • I had never heard of Open Desk before, what do we know of this suite?

  • Looks like this works regardless of that

  • That has been the plan from the start

  • And self-hosted, that part is important

  • You just have zero guarantee that the answers will be real

  • Because they're too busy playing it? 😅

  • And the Internet Archive too

  • Which is useless for non-local stuff

  • And this is the kind of things we wanted with the Stop Killing Games initiative, high respect for this dev

  • It's been a couple of years so don't recall the details or the name of the thing, but it was something that went through every comment you ever posted and overwrote it, even past the 1000 messages limit, but got crippled after the API stuff actually got implemented, no idea if it still exists or if it's usable

  • And i continue not regretting deleting everything i ever posted on Reddit for 17 years when i left them during the APIcalypse fiasco (yes, i imagine it's all archived somewhere anyway, but at least it's not there for them to use at this time)
