  • I know, right? It was very hard for me to grasp the Fediverse when i first heard about it. Now, it seems the protocol is being tapped into from a few different directions, so these new platforms may just be starting to make an appearance.

  • Just trying to play a little devils advocate. Not saying that its ethical to do it, but if morals/ethics don't play a part in the decision, it could prove useful. Besides, I'd imagine that its already being extorted pretty heavily if there's that much competition for sellers, hah.

  • Yeah, I'd argue that the project can be good and not widely used. Do you think that there are projects with real use case and are great open source software and not widely used because its buried under the *s?

    It could be a relatively inexpensive way for niche marketing. Especially if the developer has a payment option with the software. Probably a decent way to get the software out in the open for profitability, no?

  • I vividly remember... I was in the office and one of my coworkers comes up to me with a shit eating grin on his face - like he had something he wanted to share...

    He said, "Have you ever heard of Bitcoin?" I said, "No..." He explained (sort of) what he thought it was, but sounded more like an investment opportunity (blah blah blah) less than 10 cents per... I didn't bite.

    Lets just say this didn't age well for me, lmao.

  • Yeah, I get your point. But the question still remains. Lemmy objectively has more engagement/interaction regardless of the category of social media of each medium.

    If you compare X to Lemmy, X has more engagement/interaction... And they are separate social media platforms categorically. Yet, Mastodon trumps Lemmy's user count by nearly 10 fold...

    It stands to question that with a fraction of the users on Lemmy, why is the interaction/engagement considerably higher?

  • I quit not only because of vaping and tobacco-less nicotine pouches, but because I wanted it. If you are buying it for a family member, you can't make them quit... Hopefully they are wanting to, because you can't make that decision for them. Just like any other addict.

  • Thirded. Came from Proton even. It's been solid for sure!

    Use it daily with a couple applications. Namely Thunderbird on Android and Mailbird on Windows.
