  • Cut toxic motherfuckers off.

  • While I agree with the "fuck 'em" attitude to a certain extent I'm not sure that should apply to the entire gradient of differently abled. A lot of people who are mentally infirm have to continue to work in this hellscape and may have real roadblocks preventing learning about 'puters and the interweb and there's not a whole lot of resources anyway for people who don't live in the city. But yeah I don't expect a magic answer. Your GIF might actually be the best way haha.

  • I hear you, but in a lot of these cases the people with complaints are not competent. Anyone who has worked helpdesk or adjacent has seen boatloads of 'em. Imagine I'm an oldie or fool or even grew up without electrical power and I barely know how a computer works. I don't really want to work with them and I think turning the monitor on and off is a reboot. Windows is horrible with all this bloat and AI and so much confusing shit but usability-wise it makes some sense I guess. I could do with a change but I can't do anything confusing or outside of my limited range. I'm probably not installing a good distro. I am not partitioning a drive. I am not creating a bootable USB. What do I do?

The only option here is to have them go out on a limb and buy a machine online pre-installed with Linux or have someone else set it up, right?

  • Give it a massive alien cock to distract.

  • I wanted to be circumcised so bad one day I said "fuck it" and bent nearly in half and bit my foreskin off. One bite. Ate it too.

Problem is, you get a taste for it. When I hear a man is uncircumcised I seduce him, get him in the bedroom and bite his off too. I'm wanted if ninety countries and am the only person permanently banned from Burning Man.

Circumcise your child or he may become like me too. Or worse, in 18 years he may become my victim...

  • My history lobe is a bit rusty but after emancipation, black folks grew a lot of watermelon because it was easy and cheap to grow and it sold well. It was a symbol of the time as well as former slaves reaching financial independence. As usual, shitheads will turn any symbol against it's people as a tool of oppression (see DEI as a recent example) so watermelon was associated with black people in the worst way. Now the racism has died down a lot but to this day some people will say (and think) that black people love watermelon and think of it as a poverty food.

It goes way deeper but that should be the semi-accurate gist.

  • Looking it up it looks like it originally spread from a racist context. Not sure how reliable Know Your Meme is but here's one of the pages I was looking at. https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/finally-synthetic-watermelon

Seen plenty of other bad ones on the Facebook and the Twitter before I quit though.

  • I'm so fucking happy to be seeing this meme without a racist context. Maybe I troll the wrong corners of the internet but all I see this captioned with other places is zero effort racist jokes.

  • Nah. That's just lemmy's dipshit detector. Seems like you set it off somehow...

  • At this point the subversion aspect of this meme format is so expected that it's subversive not to do it.

  • I like ICP but I'm not in the group at all. I like deranged sounding music and talented creators. The freaks should get a little love but going full fan is hard when I don't like all of their stuff. But I guess that doesn't really refute the point hahaha.

  • Knowing that people are not evil. We're just animals who conform. It's too late for some to get better and be more empathetic but not everyone.

My uncle had to move states for work and he went from a MAGA tattoo trumper to a protester in the span of two years because he was isolated from his "friends" and met some fellas at work who took his ignorant ass in. Played pool in one of their garages every Wednesday and Friday with the rest of their friends. Found community. Doted on his coworkers trans daughter to the point where he pitched in a third for her first car. People are all the same but are easily tricked and will do anything to fit in. It gives me hope that love can spread too. Not just hate.

  • Yeah I mean, I see what you're saying, but isolated incidents don't really make a good basis for decisions. It seems like on some cursory research that there are just a handful of trans athletes across all of college athletics (like less than 10/500000) and they're not exactly record breakers. I'm no data analyst but that's a pretty awful sample size if we're talking about. Your boxing example seems like a good argument to take these on a case-by-case basis in case someone against all odds is trying to game the system until there are enough examples to make it clear that there's a problem.

  • Good question. I just don't give enough of a shit about sports to have an opinion here. Especially a negative one. Not only that but I've literally seen no trans athletes perform in a televised physical sport ever. So they should go for it and if it's like a clear difference. Idk. Address it then.

I see a lot of people in my town talk mad shit about trans people and immigrants when the extent of their experience outside of media is seeing them one day living life and doing nothing disruptive. This issue always feels the same. Like if a ton of immigrants showed up and started doing... something bad? Fill in the blank here. I think that would be the time to deal with it and have strong opinions that could negatively impact them.

I think having a strong positive opinion that doesn't negatively impact people is great but when it comes to excluding people or hurting people let's see the damage they deal first.

  • I've always thought that they shared resources to maintain their environment. If they're growing well it might make sense to try to keep their surroundings the same; if a neighbor dies, something else may move in that isn't as friendly.
