  • I use a plugin for Jellyfin (which I believe is available by default you just have to click the install option on the plugins page in your Dashboard) and manually download subtitles through the subtitles menu for an item if what I download doesn't include them.

  • What in the fuck is this guy talking about? Me when I'm addicted to social media but refuse to turn off notifications or curate my experience. The beginning of that second paragraph is a strange concoction of words that doesn't actually communicate anything. I skimmed through the article and it devolves into a rant about a play the author didn't enjoy and other stray ramblings like this:

Less is considered more. Being “tacky” is seen as the greatest imaginable sin. Odd, considering who’s the president of the United States and what he’s done to the White House, but maybe that’s the origin of all this cold minimalism.

This entire article feels like a paper you didn't start until the night it was due and only remembered about after you took a weed gummy.

  • I really enjoyed The Sandman. It's one of my favorite shows ever. I can't think of any changes I would have preferred.

  • Functionally they're all interchangeable, especially bi/pan. The biggest difference between the three is their flags.

  • My understanding is that debrid servers do not seed, which is the primary reason I've been turned off to the idea of using one

  • Never read this article before, thanks for sharing!

  • Jellyfin natively supports playlists. Symphonium also supports playlists, both local and from your Jellyfin server.

  • It's not altruistic, but the blog post outlines why they're doing this. Underappreciated volunteer-run dependencies can have security flaws that impact huge swaths of the tech sector. Investing a few grand now to secure those tools instead of significantly more money to do damage control after a vulnerability is found and exploited makes sense. It's a preventative measure that benefits the entire industry, GitHub and its parent company Microsoft included.

  • To me, "he died" puts an emphasis on what the person actually went through. To die is to experience the process of dying. "He is dead" puts the emphasis on his current state, not on the transition from life to that state. Linguistically, I consider dying to be the process and death to be the result. You die once, but you stay dead forever (medical resuscitation notwithstanding).

I have no clue how many other people think of the phrases like that, but that's the rhetorical distinction I draw between the two.

  • That sounds about right. I don't use it very actively but I do have it set up. I might set this up as well to have them side by side.

  • I prefer sqtracker's UI, but I'm glad to have other options to choose from (and memory safety with Rust is a pretty neat bonus)!

  • Honestly? If it's your first time and you just want to watch movies for free? Install an adblocker (uBlock Origin Lite, for example) and check out the websites listed at https://fmhy.net/videopiracyguide.

  • I'm having the same issue on Android. For me, switching to desktop mode to load the Anubis check then back to mobile mode so the website is usable again worked.

  • For anyone interested in why, C was new and didn't yet optimize to the same level that a clever and experienced human could optimize Assembly. IIRC, by the time he was developing Roller Coaster Tycoon, C compiler optimization was on par with human Assembly optimization, so it was the last notable game written entirely in Assembly for optimization purposes.

I think this was the video I watched where I learned this: https://youtu.be/0JouTsMQsEA

  • I haven't considered this point before. Currently clicking on every sketchy ad I see.

  • There's no reason to trust random APKs for stuff like this anymore when Revanced exists to let you build the APK yourself right on your phone with only the patches you want. Highly recommend!
