  • I love that video. One awesome solution he brings up is letting math draw the district lines, specifically the shortest-split line method. There's also an updated version of the method called Impartial Automatic Redistricting, that uses an approach similar to SSLM, but will only make cuts along the boundaries of census blocks (the smallest geographic unit used by the Census Bureau) to avoid cutting towns/neighborhoods in half, although it can create some odd results sometimes.

However, I think both of these would currently be illegal in the US under the Voting Rights Act for not taking minority representation into account. That is one downside to these methods, even though they're probably still an upgrade compared to the heavily-gerrymandered system in the US. So in the US's current system, the algorithms would have to be updated to somehow take that into account.

There are also a few other neat district drawing rules on Wikipedia that he didn't cover which are worth a read.

  • I also miss the gritty, dark, isolated atmosphere that KF1 had. I still had my fun with KF2, but when they introduced robot enemies, sci-fi weapons, and generally goofier cosmetics, it killed some of what made the games feel special

  • When adjusted the way the article has stated, moving your head slightly to see the lines is trivial.

Plus, being parked slightly off-center or dinging a car in a parking lot is nowhere near as bad as causing a potentially deadly crash by merging into another car at high-speed.

  • +1 for PipePipe if you want quick updates + SponsorBlock. I switched from Tubular a few days ago, and it imported my Tubular export flawlessly.

You don't necessarily need to use Obtanium though, the version on F-Droid has a built-in updater. But unfortunately the built-in updater isn't automatic (just a pop up notification that takes you to the .apk download page), so I can see the convenience of Obtainium.

  • Link to study + study's conclusion infographic.

Looks like the group with the most benefit was the 2-3 8oz cups morning group, which would be 450g - 680g of coffee each morning, and they defined morning as 4am-11:59am.

  • "Some people need a budget to save; others need a budget to spend."

My suggestion would be pick a % of your income to allocate as "fun money." 5%, 10%, whatever; the most important part is you budget it. Stick it in its own savings account, then invest the rest. Then, whenever you have the opportunity to do fun things, spend extra on hobbies, help family, donate, etc, you know exactly how much you can spend.

    What day is today?

  • uBlock has an "EasyList/uBO - Cookie Notices" filter that you can enable on both desktop and mobile, which is probably enough for most people.

  • His linktr.ee from his official website links to that account. So it's official.

I think the question is: is it actually him using the account, or is it a social media manager?

  • Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed Collection is a blast if you're okay with a kart racer.

Flatout 2 is the OG combat racer.

If you're looking for a true "racing sim" type game I would probably recommend one of the Assetto Corsa games, either the original or competizione.

CarX Drift Racing Online is probably not what you expect, but is really fun. Not exactly a traditional "racing" game because you don't compete for time, but rather compete for "drift points," with longer/wider drifts getting more score. It has a surprisingly thorough singleplayer mode, and the multiplayer is relatively relaxed. Multiplayer is setup in an open-world style; you join a big lobby and can just drive around with friends or randoms without actually competing for anything, although people in each lobby can start competitions that everyone else can opt-in to. The main reason I'm recommending it is it has very thorough car customization and is a chill, non-competitive driving game, whether that be singleplayer or multiplayer.

  • English-speaking population is about 1.5 billion worldwide and 300 million of that is in the US (first language or additional language), so the US is about 20% of the world's English speakers. The 2nd and 3rd countries with the most English-speakers are India and Nigeria, so factor in internet access, and the US is almost certainly >20% of the English-speaking internet.

  • Seems like a peaceful hobby. [email protected] has a whopping 3.4k subscribers, so it seems to be relatively popular around here too.

  • These don't exactly "fit in" with the rest of the list, but on Deck I've personally had a blast with CarX Drift Racing Online and the Sonic &ASRT Collection

  • Unfortunately they block old reddit for VPN users now

  • For anyone wondering why the first-past-the-post voting system (used by most countries) is bad, what the alternatives are, and why those alternatives are better, Nicky Case has an excellent write-up that covers all of that: https://ncase.me/ballot/

  • Gamepass isn't for me, but dual booting for it is understandable. But office? I've found LibreOffice and OnlyOffice are usually "good enough," and if you really need true MS Office, I believe they offer web editors now

  • One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet is to try and build up a pavlovian association with bed/bedroom = sleep. Don't do any mentally stimulating tasks while in your bed or even bedroom - no TV or youtube, no mindless phone scrolling, no gaming, etc. Bedroom should be for sleep and sex, and that's it. If you cut everything else out for a while, your brain will much more strongly associate bed(room) with sleepytime.

Other things people have mentioned are valid too. Consistent sleep schedule, don't eat/drink/exercise for 2-3hrs before bed, etc.
