you're a towel! if i was a towel why would I have this hat and fake moustache?

  • You just taught the next generation about compatibility layers! Well done my man

  • Yeah mine was called the [City Name] Tool Library, and it was a non-profit that was independent of our local library. I imagine that they receive donated tools from contractors and companies around the city.

    As an example, I googled a random city name (Calgary) and found one for them as well: https://calgarytoollibrary.org/

    There are likely tons of similar organizations throughout Canada (and probably your country as well!)

  • On a whim I googled my city's library and "tools" and I found a non-profit society that specializes in lending of hand and power tools! This is incredible and I wouldn't have known about it without this prompt: thank you!

  • I agree with this. It's cash. If I handed it in and the police called and told me they found the rightful owner I'm not sure I'd even believe them. Let the girl keep it!

  • Reddit is definitely not the final evolution of the internet board. It goes without saying that we can do better. And when a better iteration comes along nobody will even need to ask the Reddit users to switch as theyll naturally migrate like we always have. And then eventually that thing will be decrowned for something better too

  • It's been a long time since I tried, but I tried to install Atkinson Hyperlegible on my android and it wasn't possible without rooting the phone. Your manufacturer may have a way to add fonts, but for Samsung I was limited to downloading them through their Galaxy store, which had no fonts I wanted

  • Oh hell yeah I use Atkinson Hyperlegible everywhere. There is also Atkinson Monolegible for a monospaced font so you arent stuck using Consolas

  • Try a less popular VPN server by your provider. Sometimes I have to use Uzbekistan to get Reddit and other sites to allow me on

  •

    if revenue.isTaxed():
        exploit.commitFraud()
    else:
        me.callDaddy(moneyPlz)

  • It's not stopping the far-right, don't let it stop you!

    https://runforsomething.net/ (American-centric site, but I think the resources and advice within are still useful)

  • Surely it's less work to maintain security patches for a few prior versions of windows than it is to indefinitely maintain backwards compatibility

  • The full Microsoft XP source code was leaked and is available for anyone on GitHub; not the same, I know, but it's atleast NT based. I've just always wondered why a community never formed to fork it

  • His team over at Last Week Tonight pull lots of funny stunts like this and have made quite a few hilarious websites. I wouldn't be surprised if this one is featured on the next episode!

    Edit: Hey look, it was! https://www.youtube.com/embed/nf7XHR3EVHo

  • Fwiw I'm new to Linux and went with KDE (using X11) and it seems totally buggy as shit. I love it though. I don't even wanna try the other desktop environments

  • Man I was just telling my wife about this the other day. YouTube's home page, not signed in, on an American VPN was disgusting: AI slop, half-naked women, and propaganda that was not only pro-Trump but actively suggesting violence

  • BlackRock, KPMG, McKinsey Consulting.

  • I'm on lemm.ee! It seems to have a good balance of users and sensible defederation. On mobile, the app you use make a world of a difference too. Both Jerboa and Thunder (Android) were mid tier experiences, but now I'm using Boost and it's phenomenal!

  • I'm going to go against the grain here and recommend that you NOT use Mint. I've been using a linux for a month now, so I'm new to it like you.

    My first time trying Linux was Mint, and I didn't like it at all. There was too much crap downloaded on it, and it abstracted the underlying systems too much, so I found it all very confusing. I suggest that you download a distro that Mint is based on, and then install the actual stuff you want on it.

    Mint is based on Ubuntu, which is based on Debian. I decided to go with Debian as a total noob and it makes waaay more sense to me this time around. I enjoy customizing it to my liking rather than Mint doing it all for me—often in ways I don't like.

  • Just chiming in to throw some light hearted shade at lemmy.world for defederating from the piracy communities. My time on lemmy.world was really poor, and I came away not thinking too highly of Lemmy as a whole. My experience in different instances has been a world of difference, and I finally get fantastic content in my feeds and am fully on board with Lemmy

    Sooo, where did the blatant Nazism suddenly come from?

  • Linux @lemmy.ml

    Welp, I just apt purge'd damn near everything except the kernel. How's your Friday going?

  • Linux @lemmy.ml

    It took me way too long to realize symlinks were a thing and why I couldn't understand my Linux directories
