  • I must say something: 99 % of my usage of an AI chatbot is for translating a document so I can publish it in multilang.

LLMs are REALLY GOOD at that specific job. It saves soooo much time.

Sometimes, there are mistakes (not far from human error tho), so I am assuming Mozilla will still allow for human review and correction... Right?

  • Woah, I had to do that weird textfile trick on every single computer I installed for all my family members for years until the first Debian KDE with Wayland session (was it 12?)

  • IMO Wayland surpassed X11 a long time ago... As it doesn't shit in the pants with tearing on video play or touchscreens with multi-screen.

  • That sounds like a very country-specific fact and I am not sure poster talked about a specific country.

  • Because nano has unacceptable key combos, and no support for mouse. micro has sensible key combos, good syntax highlighting and supports mouse perfectly fine.

  • Delete nano already.

    Let's make micro the standard!!

  • What's the number on VPN purchases? 😅

  • Entities I strongly recommend naming them like this:

    {location}_{type}

    For example

    main_bedroom_temperature

This way if you change devices, you can swap entity names and everything works. Also YAML code is much easier to read and write.

Devices? That's more difficult to name, but also way less important, IMO. Usually I try to follow the same scheme as for entities, but sometimes I just prefer something else, like the actual brand, date of install...

  • PoE implies Power Over Ethernet. It just implies it gets power from an Ethernet cable. It doesn't imply connection to the wider Internet.

  • My message to Telegram CEO: Open source your shit and we'll talk then about freedom and whatever marketing campaing you are on right now. Bye.

  • OuterTune, F-Droid.

  • I am a Kdenlive lover. It works great. Has plenty of options and even a "community store" of effects, render configs, etc, but for your case you won't even need to go that far.

  • Gentle reminder that a wired keyboard is by far the most sustainable option.

So, do that. Unless you really need that keyboard to move freely.

  • Modern dishwashers do this. This is done to save energy. In the old days, dishwashers just heated stuff really hot to force evaporation of surface water.

Modern dishwashers can do this too, but there is an option to just open the door and let them dry naturally. This is a longer process, but if you do like me and program it at midnight... Then it has plenty of time to dry up fine.

If I use Caddy for reverse-proxying into another local machine... is my local connection not HTTPS?

  • It's quantity and then units. Not units and then quantities. Standardize for once, goddammit!

  • Why would you do that? We should all keep on seeding as long as possible.

  • Huge warning about XMPP:

If you encrypt with OMEMO (which seems to be the only accepted encryption nowadays), forget about being able to sync your messages to a new client. Forget about being able to try another client. That is, unless you want to lose all of your message history.

When I found this out while installing another distro... It made me so angry I literally stopped using it. I recommend Delta Chat, Matrix and Signal nowadays.

  • Is there a way one could load this up as a Nextcloud app, or something?
