  • The real problem is not Rust, or that somebody decided to rewrite sudo in Rust. These are both good things.

    The actual real problem is that Ubuntu adopts these in their mainline distribution when the release version is 0.something. I mean sure, this will get the worst bugs noticed and fixed sooner but come on. Have a little empathy for your dumb users. They didn't choose to be that way.

  • If I have something serious, I will set up automatic upgrades. If short downtimes are ok, also with automatic reboots when the kernel updates, but if they are not, with notifications that I should go reboot them.

    If it's not anything serious, whenever I remember to.

  • I cannot speak for anyone else, but a year ago I thought that I'd never buy a chinese laptop due to political reasons and here we are one year later and I have a Lenovo. I think most people will eventually make their decisions based on something else than politics, or that politics are in issue only when choosing between things that are identical enough in every other way.

    Negatiivisena puolena siellä puhutaan tienkäyttömaksuista (Autoveron alta yksityiskohdista), joka on omasta mielestäni aika paska ja asioita monimutkaistava konsepti.

  • Given the amount of publicity they've received from all this, I'm inclined to be a bit conspiracy theoretic about this.... Did they plan it to unfold exactly like it did? Are you all helping them?

    Controversy and infamy lasts for a few months, but after that's over, the name Framework is still etched into everyone's minds even though they don't anymore exactly remember why.

  • Olen toki aika Libsu-myönteinen kaveri, ja tällä listalla moni kohta vaikutti hyvältä omaan silmään. Silti vähän jännittää nämä:

    1. Hyvinvointialueille luodaan kannustin säästöihin. -2,7139 mrd€ valtion budjetista

    1. Aluetuet poistetaan -4,25 mrd€/v

    Kunnat on jo nyt aika pinteessä. Olisiko tämän jälkeen Helsinki Suomen ainoa kaupunki vai onko tässä matematiikassa jotain järkeä? Pitäisi varmaan kysyä Libsuilta miten ne on tän ajatellut.

  • Why does the GOP think “ANTIFA” is bad?

  • Some or even most of their goals are good, but there's what I hope/believe to be a fringe that's anarchist and anti-capitalist. Those fringes are against civilization essentially and it makes sense for anyone living in civilization to oppose those fringes.

    Sidenote about the name: they call themselves "anti-fascist" but we all know that just because somebody calls themselves something doesn't necessarily make them that. Famous examples: "national socialist", "democratic people's republic", "holy roman empire". So essentially, being anti-antifa does not translate into being fascist.

    GOP probably opposes them because of Antifa's good goals as well, but GOP uses those bad goals as the propagandist reason why everyone should oppose them.
