  • Yeah, the complaints seem fairly juvenile. There are more consequential things in life to be outraged over.

  • Ahh, I see now. I appreciate that very much, thank you again!

  • Interesting. I like that music. It’s a little different. The only way I think attribution can really work on their system is if I record myself announcing the tracks. I’m not sure how I feel about that though. I’ll be listening myself anyway, thanks again.

  • Thank you so much, Jamendo looks ideal! I’ve been downloading from Pixabay, but with Jamendo I could possible create an account for them and gradually add songs to it as I find ones that suit.

Edit: I just see that a subscription is actually paid. The institution in question won’t cover that but I’ll mention it because management might reconsider when there’s a good offer like this that ticks all the boxes.

  • Maybe they had answered :)

  • I like radio garden. But it’s not permitted to play radio in a commercial setting that has visiting public. It counts as a public performance and requires a license.

  • Yes, the staff and clientele would both like music. It's not a shop as such, but a set of services. They used to have music in the past until they were alerted to the need for both a commercial license and a public performance license. So due to the budget set by senior powers, the music was dropped. They're trying to change that now.

  • Their terms don't allow public performances, unfortunately. But I really enjoyed what I heard there so I'll be keeping a tab open for myself. Thank you :)

  • That's great, thank you. The clientele here are on the younger side but I will personally get great use out of that list :)

Edit: actually, there are some great songs there for any age group. I'll definitely include some in the play list. Thanks again!

What is some good free music for the workplace?

  • V. Thy at scene scared the hell out of me as a kid too. Too many nights I lay in bed wishing I hadn’t seen it.

  • A good way of going for a walk while staving off the love bombers.

  • For anyone who mightn't know, tipping culture is rooted in slavery and exploitation. It existed in Europe to an extent but really spread its wings - like many awful European things - in the USA.

I support workers rights, but I don't tip. The way I see it, if the place requires tips for their staff to get by, then the staff are being financially abused and I would be propping up a system of exploitation. Prioritise places that pay their staff above the minimum wage.

  • Pink has never provided so much contrast.

  • That’s a great article. I didn’t know there were so many alternatives (eight in that article).

  • I would say Ubuntu, Mint or Debian. They have a lot of documentation online and years worth of forum posts and stack overflow threads answering various questions a user might have.

If you have a seperate computer or hard drive to install on, you can go wild trying out anything you like. In my case, I had one laptop so I needed something stable with good hardware detection and online resources.

(For context, I've tried Mandrake Linux, SUSE, Gentoo, Slitaz and a few others. I keep going back to Ubuntu / Debian.)

  • The Hounds of the Morrigan by Pat O Shea. Pure Irish fantasy set in real locations I know in Ireland.

  • And I think a big part of the problem is the psychology of group behaviour compared to individual behaviour. We can be far less moral in groups, by compartmentalising morality onto “someone else” in the group. I’m not sure that any other system can help us address that aspect of group psychology.

  • The problem with France s approach (as I understand it) is that by not recording ethnicity data, employers have free rein to discriminate if the persons background becomes known to them during the hiring process. Discrimination is rife because of this and they lack sufficient data and regulations to tackle it.

Studies have been carried out which send crafted resumes of different ethnicities to employers to assess callback rates. https://www.povertyactionlab.org/evaluation/discrimination-hiring-and-anonymous-cvs-france-cv-anonymes

I hope you’re right about US fascism. But while the U.S. President is an impulsive man child, his puppeteers are a lot smarter and more committed. We also have greater wealth inequality compared to WWII giving these guys a bigger advantage this time.
