I fuck numbers.

  • Yeah, I got an 80% off deal via mail. This offer was showing up for me, but I couldn't use it, just like OP. I had to use the specific link I got in the mail.

  • I don't know how good my English is, but it's my third language. Bengali and Hindi are my first two. I speak a couple more languages closely related to these (e.g. Urdu, Punjabi, Assamese, Odia, Sanskrit etc. Also been trying to learn French). But I can't read or write in them.

I learnt English from two sources. My reading and writing abilities mostly come from school. I had some pretty good teachers, who encouraged reading newspapers to learn English. At least in my case, it really helped.

When it comes to speaking and understanding spoken English (with all its irregularities due to accents and whatnot), watching movies and cartoons helped. I used to download and watch all kinds of movies during high school, possibly some that I shouldn't have watched at that age. My love for movies is basically what made me somewhat competent in the spoken aspect of English. (It also got me into piracy, and ultimately into FOSS, so I guess I owe a lot to the great directors whose movies were hard to find legally lol.)

  • I've edited my comment with some more recommendations. Mokapots are very forgiving, so you'll be fine with preground coffee. If you get a decent hand grinder, I'll bet money that you can't tell the difference between that and any fancy grinder, Mokapots are just that forgiving.

  • Use it within a week or so, and it's very close. Hell, I'd say even two weeks is fine; but it may depend on your method of brewing, and sensitivity of palate. You can even freeze part of the grounds to keep them fresh for longer. James Hoffmann did a nice video about it.

If you really want to grind yourself, you can get really nice hand grinders for around $150 from 1Zpresso. If you're on a tighter budget, Timemore C3 is a good cheaper optiosn, that's good enough for anything that's not espresso, or turkish coffee.

  • Yeah. I have a somewhat cheap one at around $300, but if you don't wanna buy, try looking for local roasteries. They usually offer preground options. Even some coffee shops will grind it for you if you ask nicely. Their grinders are usually much fancier than whatever any enthusiast will buy anyway.

  • Yeah.

  • Due to my father being a student leader in his youth, and later a local socialist party worker, I happen to know quite a few Indian politicians. I know people both from the left, and the right, and more than 90% of them are awful manipulative bastards. That's the main reason I decided not to be active in the party. Even though I support their on-paper agenda, I just loathe the leadership, and don't have the patience or will to work with them. I still go to their events whenever I'm in India, like fundraisers and stuff, but I try to avoid the leadership. Fuckers make my skin crawl.

Edit: All the people talking about therapy in the other comments probably mean well, but not everything can (or needs to) be solved by therapy. I think this is one of the negative aspects of therapy when its hyper focused on individuals. This sort of idea that everyone should try to change themselves, instead of critiquing the society is what's got us into this individualistic hellhole. Sure, go ahead and disconnect from these people, or learn to ignore them and be happy; but these people are still there, and they often have real power over us. You can ignore them, until you can't; that's how we get people like Trump.

  • This is even more apparent with the online Indian hate. It's so manufactured. Especially on Instagram, that place is a hell hole.

  • Assuming you mean Navidrome, it offers more control over transcoding, has broader support, and has smart playlists. Also, I just like that it's a separate service. I don't like keeping all my eggs in the same basket.

When it comes to Symfonium, I just find the dev to be extremely annoying. I bought a license for it, and used to use it with Navidrome. But when I encountered some issues, the dev was unhelpful, and downright abusive. So, I decided to find something that's FOSS, and Tempus fits the bill.

  • It syncs stuff between devices. It's de-centralized, P2P, extremely fast, highly customizable, and works with a large number of devices.

  • Here are ten (FOSS) tools that I use on a regular basis.

    1. Syncthing
    2. Jellyfin with Findroid
    3. Ntfy
    4. Navidrome with Tempus
    5. Immich
    6. Sonarr, Prowlarr
    7. Chhoto URL
    8. FileShelter
    9. Signal
    10. Caddy
  • No it doesn't. If I say I'm melting on a hot day, I'm not trying to minimize the suffering of burn victims. It's just comparison.

  • Yeah, if you want me to hear your endless bitching, you at least need to invite me for drinks (or potluck, if you don't drink) sometimes. Even then, I might just offer some advice every once in a while. A little bit of tough love is sometimes necessary.

  • This just reeks of right wing anti-intellectualism. People actually offering solutions are vilified because they're sometimes rude or annoying. Grow up, and learn to ignore people you want to ignore. Not everyone will bow down to your whims. You wanna complain, fine, some will respond with solutions. If you don't want that, ignore them. It's not very hard.

  • Uhh, that's kind of the definition of showing off? (It's fine, I'm not complaining. But let's call it what it is.)

  • Yeah, snapper just works better with btrfs in my experience, but timeshift is fine too.

  • Arch is great for gaming. Also, if you're familiar with how Linux works, Arch pretty much gets out of your way. Just have btrfs with snapper for rolling back any mistakes. (Although, I've only had to do that once in the last 5 years or so on Arch. And I was trying to replace the graphics driver, so kinda on me.)

  • Dozens!

  • I've already taken the RAM and SSD for my home server, but I don't think I can use much else. Not much of a hardware guy. I'll happily send it over to anyone if they paid for shipping (I'll even add some old RAM). Some screws are stripped, so the chassis doesn't close properly, but if those are replaced, it can be a perfectly usable laptop with some RAM and SSD. It'll be better than just dumping it.
