  • Yeah exactly or they just say we are trying to be superior and annoying tech autists xD

  • Thats the thing...there's no way ill convince people to get off discord now that they just got comfortable with it all.

  • Same. 1991 RCA!

  • Fiiirefoooxx

  • Tbf if you play games like pubg or bf1 bf5 etc , you need windows. Otherwise, windows would not really be needed at all.

  • This is really neat, but much too expensive for me

  • It works, but performance suffers for games etc.

  • You wont lose access from switching. I have the same scenario. Multiple drives, coming form windows. However, your drives are probably formatted NTFS which doesn't play nice with linux. You will want to backup and then reformat them as EXT4 before long. Thats probably the biggest pain with moving to linux. But it's not that bad. I recommend getting an external backup drive or maybe a cloud backup for a month to have somewhere to put your files before you switch fully.

I made the switch a few months ago after using linix maybe 13 years ago. I rarely boot windows now.

  • I find flatpaks really annoying. Even using flatseal to allow perms, I have constant issues. But I'm a noob.

  • Linux @lemmy.ml

What have you been using for cloud backups?

  • Yeah this doesn't seem right. Im not sure my router supports running a vlan and allowing certain services through to lan

  • I just saw that i have a vlan/iptv setup that I can apply as a bridge on the guest network the tv is on. That seems right ?

  • I think netgear makes the guest network a subnet.

Im going to look into a vlan with all exceptions. It's a nighthawk router so I think it has those features. Haven't gotten around to putting dd wrt on it yet

  • Privacy @lemmy.ml

Keeping "smart" devices on guest network

  • Every day of my life trying to explain to friends they need to quit using spoon fed software. Sigh.

  • Imagine them being able to play cs and go a whole round after dying instantly to a one tap... kids definitely couldn't handle it

  • Thank you to everyone who commented. You guys are basically geniuses as far as im concerned, and I have a good library of content to look back on now when I have time to get into it. The hardest part will be coming up with a project so simple that I can do it, but one thats interesting enough for me to actually stick with. Maybe something at first like, at 6 pm on Tuesdays, it flashes a gif onscreen. Or maybe a super simple text game.

  • I think this is true but current society and AI especially will drive them to be lazy and grow up reliant on instant answers if parents aren't careful to keep that trash away from them

  • Makes them learn. The spoon feeding software is part of the problem of our dumb society.

  • You'd be an awesome parent !

  • I hate the term. It waters down true programmers and hard work. 9 year old rips off someone and makes game, "app". Actual software dev makes useful program using hard work and their own assets, "app".

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Is it possible to stop corporations/government from building by me?

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

What is really meant by "programming" when people say they like to use linux for it?

  • linuxmemes @lemmy.world

Wifi adapter linux issue pls help (joke)

Is there any way to bring back a section of the Internet to those of us who want it to stay in the 2003-2010 and before era?
