  • I have my update stuff put into a simple bash script that includes flatpak so that gets taken care of.

  • It still restarts and does the whole "Updating, please do not turn off your computer" screen. Does dnf take care of that all? Is it even necessary to restart?

  • You can buy twice as many drives, though.

  • Honestly I'd recommend buying refurbished drives and using them in a RAID array so that you can easily replace one for cheap(ish) if it goes bad.

before anyone says "RAID is not a backup" yeah I know but you can't deny its capability to function as such. 3-2-1 always applies.

  • If you just want an internal webUI with video playback, I absolutely love MeTube.

    https://github.com/alexta69/metube

It uses yt-dlp as a backend and has a lot of configuration and supports a lot of sites.

Exposing this to the outside isn't a good idea because of the risk of DMCA or someone abusing your hard drive space

  • I had some weird issues with my 3080 Ti on Fedora 41 and 42 and have recently switched to a 9070 XT.

Most games ran fine, but other programs acted strange while games were open. Space Engineers, Escape from Tarkov, and a couple other titles wouldn't allow me to use other programs. The cursor would stay the same as in-game, even when alt-tabbed, and the Discord UI would become unresponsive.

I had several strange issues with my monitor flickering that didn't resolve until I uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers.

I had a horrible issue with Minecraft and other OpenGL games that caused a strobing white screen while playing. I forgot how I resolved that one.

I had to reinstall drivers several times. I don't know how much of it was self-inflicted or just how it goes on Linux.

None of these issues have come up while on my 9070 XT.

  • Just stock Firefox with the most up to date uBlock Origin (your version) should be sufficient. YouTube has been experimenting lately with some work arounds lately, so maybe you're one of the few unlucky ones.

  • I built a Tasker program that blocks unknown numbers if toggled and allows back-to-back calls through. It uses a Minimalistic Text widget for control.

I also built one for background images. Every time I turn my screen off, my background changes to a new (blurry, gray) picture of my wife. Double tapping will unblur and color it. I can toggle switching if I like a particular picture.

  • People here don't like Nintendo for their treatment of modders and emulator devs. Nintendo is a very litigious company and shuts down any fun project related to their IP.

  • The gold standard for transcoding these days is a newer gen Intel CPU with integrated graphics.

The integrated GPU on those intel chips can do Intel QuickSync / QSV which will handle a dozen streams at once without breaking a sweat.

  • So far the closest thing was Plasma Bigscreen, but it's still in development.
