  • Not as much a book, but the documentary Dominion. If someone can watch that and not understand reasons for going vegan if not choosing to do so themselves, I seriously question their moral compass.

  • Nailed it. Maybe a nation who's entire system of checks and balances that it beat off to for years can be toppled to fast and utterly doesn't deserve to be rebuilt.

The experiment is over folks. It's been dead for a while. 2025 just opened some people's eyes to it.

  • Sometimes I fantasize about the parents who raised and subsequently deserted me weren't my biological parents. And somewhere out there, my real ones are looking for me and want me in their lives.

Ofc I'd probably let them down too

  • “Every story ever told can be broken down into three parts. The beginning. The middle. And the twist.”

Jack Black as RL Stein, Goosebumps intro (2015). Sets up the titular sensation.

  • Mostly for reminding myself why I no longer use reddit.

Also occasional tech support issues via DuckDuckGo searches

  • They are "allowed" because their actions no longer have consequences. None.

  • Literally all I've been watching are old shows and such off my Plex server and playing games on a retro handheld

  • Blocking is self-care. Just with the added teeth of "get tf out of my phone."

    That's it.

It's maintaining your personal peace, and frankly I find it weird that it's even a conversation let alone as stigmatized as it is. People still have a litany of ways to reconnect outside digital. It's literally what people had to do before blocking was a thing.

  • That is a fair statement. 2 birds with one stone. If you're into stoning birds. I'm not one to kink shame lol

  • I have a son with my ex locally. She would never leave here and I refuse to live more than 30 minutes away from him should something happen. As unhealthy as it is, he's all I have. Which ofc isn't a substitute for a peer relationship, nor should it be with a preteen.

  • This is the best advice I've read so far. Not to diminish others comments as I truly appreciate the time taken on each and every one, but yeah, find a hobby group is like adult loneliness 101

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Middle Aged Folks with no social group: How do you do it?

  • Men, by and large, create toxicity within their own circles. Male culture has a lot of issues and a lot of unrealistic expectations are put in men in US society. Some external, but the majority come from inside. The whole alpha male culture bullshit that permeantes it. There's a lot, and I mean a LOT of good that can come from healthy male culture. But right now it's like men have a branding issue where the loudest among them are also the worst (the Andrew Tates of the world).

  • All the time. But never in a laughing with me kind of way

  • Optimistic Nihilism baby. Basically, if nothing we do matters in the long run, then live each day to be happy while helping to make others around you as comfortable as you can while we all take the ride.

  • Hehehehehehe…penetrator

  • The fucked up thing is I’m guilty of this. I’ve literally no one in my life, so when things get hard and I need to get it out, ChatGPT is usually my only option without bothering people with trauma dumping posts.

  • Brenda?

  • I threw an apple core under a school bus.

I had just finished my apple at the bus stop and decided to toss the core before boarding. A woman at the bus stop told the driver I violently threw a rock under the bus. By the time I made it to school, it somehow had become glass through her calling the school.

Never did learn why that woman had such a bad day.

Is there a limit on presidential pardons in the US?

  • You know what? THERE IS NO EASTER BUNNY! Over there? That’s just a guy in a suit!!
