Hi, I'm sbird! I like programming and am interested in Physics. I also have a hobby of photography.

  • Nice! Will be adding that to the list

  • "CapyReader"

  • I do follow them too, forgot to mention! They do make good comics though

  • No Stupid Questions @lemmy.world

What are some good RSS feeds that I should follow?

  • I did mention that non-American news are similar, but the American ones in particular are very on the nose when it comes to this.

If Marx was alive during the Cold War and beyond, how would he react to the communist states that rose to power? Would he approve or disapprove of them?

Why does American media (and to an extent the American public) seem to only focus on one issue at a time?

  • Not that, when searching with the "application menu". Or is KRunner running when that is open? I'm pretty sure its different since KRunner (when opened with keyboard shortcut) shows extra things compared to the application menu search bar. Dang, you can't edit that easily?

  • I remember reading something somewhere that the gravitational lensing of dark matter (where light bends around and you can see behind) was evidence for dark matter being a thing that exists. Dark matter could really be anything though (ones I have heard about include WIMPs, primordial black holes, and supersymmetric particles like gravitinos), and we simply don't have enough experimental data to know what it is. We know it exists as we see its gravitational effects in galaxies and such, but that's about it.

  • No, don't think you can. You can upload a link to a video hosting site though (a file hosting thing would also work)

Rename the "shutdown" shortcut to "power off" in KDE Plasma?

  • So it's like when a camera doesn't have enough light to properly take a photo, producing a lot of grain. Like when you have a high ISO when taking a photo/video in a dark room, it looks very grainy. I guess the eye is still adjusting its "exposure" if you see some of this graininess in the dark (or when you close your eyes?)

  • Personally, I'm just using an old laptop (think it's 11th gen Intel i5) as a home server. A mini PC seems like a good option if you don't have an old laptop though.

I also have an older laptop with a 6th gen Intel core i3 and a dead battery that I have to put to good use at some point, but haven't bothered to do so yet. What should I use it for?

  • if not humming, then listening to music in your mind!

  • thinking about stuff (what to eat later, what to do later, etc), chatting with a friend/family member, looking around to see what's happening (construction, birds doing bird things, plants changing shape/size/color, etc), reading, or humming to a song you know (you don't need your phone to enjoy music!)

  • damn

  • For your information, I'm not American. I will check out those songs though, they seem pretty cool :D

  • being angry on the internet is one thing, you have to give evidence to support your argument

  • like the chess piece with eight on each side. The one that can be promoted to any other non-king piece once it gets to the other side. pwned is getting your data leaked, being "pawned" means getting taken advantage of/being puppeted by a higher power, and I always linked that to being scammed through a phishing attack (and usually your data has been leaked, you have been pwned)

  • No way, beep bop, there aren't any bots on the internet! Beep-doop-bop

There are a lot of not very nice things on the internet, the meat bags are mean sad beep bop

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

What are popular, iconic, and must-listen songs from where you are from?

  • When I got into self-hosting, I was recommended Yunohost. I'm sure it's great, but I couldn't get it to boot, so I ended up using Debian. (which is what Yubohost is running under the hood I believe)

I remember someone telling me that CasaOS is very simple and could also be a good option, but I have no experience with trying to install it or using it.

Most of the self-hosting tutorials I found used either Debian or Ubuntu (a derivative of Debian), so using Debian or one of its derivatives could make it easier to figure out how to set up everything.

  • Apple, Samsung, all the Chinese phone brands with their proprietary fast charging standards, HP, Bambu Lab, Nintendo, Xbox, Microsoft, Google, Adobe, etc. etc.

There's a lot of terrible companies, actually.

  • several can mean 2-5 years, right? Or are you one of those people who insist on a distinction between couple, few, many, and several?
