  • Considering that violence against npcs who have unskippable text or are veritably annoying is documented everywhere and seemingly laughed at by everyone

I honestly avoid gaming communities like the plague, so I appreciate you delving into places where I will not tread.

  • Creating two tutorials and an option to skip the tutorial is a foolproof solution. Give the absolute basics to players, don’t tell them they can sprint while they can only just walk. Three sentences or less. Preferably less- show, don’t tell. Dump the succinctly phrased advanced information in menus, if you can’t figure out how to organically offer it. Maybe let players unlock the information, a la Tunic.

I realize this is a big ask for older games, but I’m constantly baffled that modern games can’t manage it. It feels like the result of feature creep

  • Depends on the style of game. If it’s simple or well established, I’d prefer to figure it out on my own. You steal my time and enjoyment by stating the obvious. Make them optional. Anything else, the shorter the better. Leave the details in menus.

  • If the tutorial is just playing the game, I’m fine with it. If the tutorial is 261% lore relevant, I’m fine with it. If the tutorial is entertaining, I’m fine with it. (Portal/lisa/undertale) If one more old man micromanages my battle against a goddamn training dummy, I’m sending unkind emails.

  • “Whoa, nice Cartman costume!”

  • I didn’t realize I was in an autism community once and couldn’t understand why they couldn’t understand the subtext of my comment. (Playfully jabbing back and forth with friends) Not much, otherwise, unfortunately.

  • Playing dumb. Joke’s on them, I’m only playing 3/4 of the time.

  • I noticed it a few months ago. It feels like a sudden, inorganic shift. Either all the good people have trickled off to a better basin, or someone or something has influenced Lemmy users

  • You’d be a fool to leave them!

  • This is a fairly subjective question. But I’d use it to become the greatest day trader in history. 24.01 hours ago, purchase contracts and stop losses on exceptionally leveraged positions. Worst case scenario, I 0 my account, which holds only as much money as I’m willing to lose. Best case scenario, I earn several times my initial investment. Effectively, I’ve doubled my chances. Even the worst trader in the world would earn reasonable money with a “double or nothing” on an account they already know will turn to nothing.

  • Ninja something, muscle something, and a game that looked a bit like prototype. All incremental games. As you can tell, I wasn’t particularly invested in them. I don’t imagine you or your son begged in global chat for several minutes at a time with intentional spelling errors.

  • To get items in Roblox for a relative, I used to pretend to be a child and find users who would groom me. They were entirely unaware that I was quite probably older than they were. I saved hundreds of dollars on gifts, and it didn’t cost me all that much time. Roblox is not safe for kids

  • Vegetarian (nearly vegan)/not doxxing myself because I piss many people off unintentionally. Flies are my most consistent concern. So long as the food was shielded from insects and extended temperatures above 25c/70f, I really don’t care to put it away urgently. Tupperware is just exhausting to use. Soup standing overnight isn’t a strange sight, but I eat my leftovers promptly

  • Isn’t the advanced note effectively just a reiteration of the authors note?

  • I just throw my laptop in the ocean when the battery runs out

  • No profit to be made with that, and fixed costs are still fixed. Why make an efficient static page for 6 dollars per month when you can make several hundred pages with AI and make 15 cents?

  • Excellent prank tool, if nothing else. “Honey, I swear I wasn’t railing scores of whores. I have no idea where the vibrator came from! Please don’t leave, I’ll do anything. Please, I’ve been working so hard to keep us afloat, and we do date night every other night and I love you and the kids. You started smiling again, Jimmy isn’t setting fires anymore, and Alissa is going to graduate soon. Please, just don’t go!”

    Ha, classic

  • Just adding a little, I’d bring a couple of books. Something to pass time to stay mentally satiated for long periods, and something else to pick up and put down at a whim. For me, a decent sci-fi novel and a printed comic collection. Backup entertainment and toilet reading, respectively.
